Gurran looked tentatively over the edge of the pit as over three hundred traitor marines stamped their feet and bayed for blood. One of the gates to the pit was opened and colour-sergeant Viora was roughly pushed out and a sword was tossed to her. Two more gates opened up and through one came a large blue ape like creature with a barbed tail, through the third came one of the blood splattered berserkers, pulling at his chains like an enraged starved animal. The lord of the assembled renegade Astartes, a giant brute with a large forehead and bony protrusions gave a curt wave of his hand and the chains binding the ape and the berserker fell away and the gates slammed shut behind them. The ape turned to face Viora and lunged at her, she rolled away as the beasts heavy paws slammed the stone floor. The berserker leapt on the back of the ape and wrapped its arms around its neck, the ape thrashed and bucked, lashing its tail at the Marine. The warrior must have weighed over three hundred kilos, but the ape was throwing him around like a ragdoll. Seeing a chance Viora ran forward and thrust her sword into the apes chest. The creature roared in anger and backhanded her across the jaw, sending her stumbling back, her sword still in the beasts chest. The creature gripped the Chaos Marine and threw him over its shoulder and into the ground, cracking stone and ceramite. The ape thrashed the stricken marine, caving in the helmet and cracking the chest plate open. Roaring with rage the Berserker swung out, knocking over the ape, and stood back up, his helmet falling away, showing his ruined and bloody face. The ape and berserker faced each other. Viora stepped forward and kicked at the berserker's knee, sending shards of armour into its legs. The badly wounded marine staggered forward and fell to one knee and the ape slammed its paw into the marines head, caving it in. The dead marine dropped with a thud and the ape swung wide at Viora who stepped in and put her momentum behind the sword embedded in its chest. Delivering a brutal punch Viora was sent sprawling across the pit floor, but before the beast could kill her a gunshot echoed around the hall and the roaring crowd fell silent. As the beast fell over, its head gone, all eyes turned to the raised dais. The lord of the hall was slowing clapping his iron bound hands together.
