Disclaimer: I do now own Wicked or High School Musical, nor am I making any money off of this story. It's just for fun.

(-Author-) I really like HSM and lately I have developed a strong liking for the Broadway play Wicked. I thought it would be cool to write a fic about East High putting on a production of Wicked. Hope you like it.

It was the beginning of a new year for The Wildcats at East High. Basketball team tryouts, the science club making plans for their first meeting, and the cheerleaders practicing their new cheers under the new captain. In reality I just wasted a few minutes of your time, our tale has nothing to do with those other cliques, though they will probably come up within the story. Our tale is about the drama club and the fall musical, from the first auditions, to the final performance, and all the trials in between. This is no fairy tale; all the happenings were very much real for the students of East High, so if that's what you're looking for, best you find another story.

Homeroom was louder than it had ever been, the auditions for the fall musical had been posted and after last years events everyone wanted to audition. Last year the unexpected happened at East High, the basketball star Troy Bolton and new girl genius Gabriella Montez stole the lead roles of the winter musical from the drama club queen and king, Sharpay and Ryan Evans. Sharpay refused to let her musical get into the hands of people who are inferior to her and her brother, and yes she does come first.

Everyone was abuzz with excitement. This year's musical was to be Wicked, which told the tale of The Wicked Witch of the West and how she came to be known by that awful name. The parts to be auditioned for were as follows: Elphaba, Galinda/Glinda, Madame Morrible, Fiyero, Dr. Dillamond, The Wizard, Nessarose, and Boq. Auditions were to be held at exactly 3:30 after school, no sooner and no later. Mrs. Darbus, the drama teacher and director, was very strict when it came to time.

By lunchtime everyone had heard the news, walking through the cafeteria was like walking through a musical all in its own. Freshmen with pre-pubescent voices, girls with high-pitched squeals, that they insisted were American Idol worthy, and the boys who acted like they were too cool for musical theatre, though we all know they will audition anyways. Everyone wanted to be a star at East High, a school full of hopefuls and wannabes. It was hard to sort out the attention seekers from the truly inspired, there were few students at East High who auditioned because of their passion for theatre, you could find these students above the rest in the cafeteria, on the second floor you would find the true drama club.

"I, of course, am auditioning for the role of Galinda." Came the voice of Sharpay Evans from above the noise. Known to the students of East high as the "Ice Princess", Sharpay had been in nineteen school productions. "Which song do you plan to sing? And of course to her side was her faithful brother Ryan. "I plan to sing an excerpt from Popular." She answered, though everyone already knew that's what she was going to say. "Fitting." Gabriella Montez, now one of Ryan's friends after the devastating breakup, whispered to Kelsi Nielson, another one of Ryan's friends and an amazing pianist. "I think I'm going to go for the part of Elphaba, my belting of Defying Gravity will definitely convince Darbus." She added. "Looks like you're going to have some competition than Kelsi." Ryan said nudging Kelsi with a smug look on his face. "Piano girl is going to audition for a musical." Sharpay said more as a statement than a question. In that moment all eyes were on Kelsi, she wasn't used to it, but it sure felt good.
