A Twinless Twin

"You okay, Freddie?" George asked as the two stood looking out over the army of Death Eaters trying to break through the many enchantments shielding Hogwarts.

"Yeah," Fred nodded and gulped nervously.

"Me too," he elbowed his brother.

Then, turning around the duo made their way back into the castle.

"Well, guess this is where we part," Fred and George came to a halt. The two had hoped to fight side by side, but since they knew the ins and outs of the castle the best, aside from perhaps the fallen Mauraders, they were sent to protect separate entrances to the castle.

The two grasped hands, "Good luck."

The 'I love yous' unspoken but known. The Weasley twins parted ways, neither knowing those were the last moments they would have with each other, the last words they would say to the other.

George dodged a curse and fired off another stunning spell. He suddenly stumbled and a feeling of dread settled in the pit of his stomach. Frantically looking around he couldn't see anything wrong, besides the hundreds of Death Eaters invading the school and students lying dead on the ground, yet something was off. Something was suddenly missing, gone, lost forever.

Breathing a sigh of relief George made his way to the Great Hall after Voldemort called a cease fire. He shivered, trying to literally shake off the creepiness of having the Dark Lord inside his head. Upon entering the Hall he looked for his family, not hard to spot a large gathering of red heads after all.

But he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw his look alike lying prone on the floor. He soon broke out into a sprint and shoved Percy aside.

"No! Fred! Wake up!" he shook his brother. It was all a joke, it had to be. Fred was just sleeping. He was tired after all the fighting.

"Alright haha, very funny, it's gone on long enough Fred!" His father pulled him away from his dead brother and into his arms, trying to comfort the remaining twin as best he could.

"Ron!" George quickly turned around and tightly wrapped his arms around his younger brother. Ron was still alive even though he had left them to confront the beast and face danger head on. Sensing something was wrong; Ron pushed George away and knelt beside Fred, sobbing as he came to the sad realization that his brother was dead. There would be no more jokes or pranks from Fred.

George's legs suddenly gave out on him and he sank to his knees, drained of life just like his twin.

There was a commotion outside the castle, but George stayed where he was. He would not leave his brother's side. They had never really been separated before and now they were permanently separated, one on Earth and one up in Heaven.

Fred was his other half, his partner in crime. He was the one that understood him, knew him best, and now he was gone.

Voldemort was back and they had lost. It was all for nothing. Fred's death was meaningless.

"No!" his head snapped up, that was Ginny. He ran outside, he would not lose anyone else.

Harry was dead too. No wait, he was alive! George turned to tell his twin, but unlike Harry who had survived the killing curse twice now, Fred had not.

Spurred by his anger George fired curse after curse at the oncoming Death Eaters. He would avenge Fred's death; it would not be for naught.

They had won! Voldemort was gone!

But so was Fred.

After checking in with his family, George hung his head and went to one of the many secret rooms he had discovered with his twin.

He did not want to see the dead body again. It was unnatural. Fred had been so full of life.

George poured himself a shot of the firewhisky the two had stashed in there what felt like ages ago, but was in reality only two years ago. He lifted the glass up,

"To you, Fred."
