"Sirius?" Luna Corrona touched the young man's arm tentatively. He
was quite young, as was the woman. But they shared a pain, and the hollow
eyes of this Sirius Black masked his youth. He wasn't insane yet, Luna
observed.
"Luna? I-I."
"Shh." Luna cut him off. She sat in his cell. She may have only
had 5 minutes, but she would make a damn good use of it. She sank to the
floor beside him, wrapping her arms around him, holding him as he cried.
"I miss them, Luna. Oh, God, I miss them.'
"I know, I know. I feel it everyday."
"Luna, please, I- you have to believe me. I didn't, I, Peter, I"
"Sirius, please, shush. I know that there's no way you could have
done any of this. I'll find a way to change this, all of it, I promise
you." Remus Lupin came up to door of the cell. Luna raised her hazel eyes
and held his gaze with her equally intense one. He couldn't meet her eyes,
looking everywhere except Sirius.
"Looks like our five minutes are up," she whispered to Sirius. "It
won't be like this for much longer, I promise." Black nodded, and let go
of her hand. "Be well, Sirius." He transformed into the great black mass
that she'd seen so many times, and licked her hand.
"You're welcome," Luna whispered. Then, she left the package of food
she'd smuggled and stepped out of the cell holding one of Azkaban's most
infamous murderers. She slipped on her coat and placed her cold hand in
Remus's sweaty one. And as they left the fortress that day, Luna had the
distinct feeling that she was leaving a funeral, and was sobered and
saddened by the fact as she leaned her head on Remus Lupin's shoulder and
allowed him to hold her all night long.
