CHAPTER 1: Kageyama's backstory
Despite his bulky and intimidating appearance, Kageyama is actually a very fragile human being. When he was little, he was puny, wimpish, and often sick. One time when he was three or four he came down with a flu, and almost died. That was when the doctors diagnosed him with a bizarre heart condition. His mother cried for hours next to his hospital bed because of it.
Turns out it was for the best, though. Since then, Kageyama takes two pills a day: one during breakfast, the other 30 minutes before dinner. For years now he hasn't had any symptoms. Kageyama also managed to put on weight and grow tall to become a "very fine young man", as the doctors would say.
When we entered junior school, he asked the doctors about joining a sports team. His mother feared for his heart, but the doctors assured her that exercise was actually good for Tobio. But they made him promise to carry his medicine along every time he exercised — Kageyama complied.
Kageyama dove deep into sports, and after a few weeks he settled for volleyball. He even joined Kitagawa Daiichi boys' volleyball team. He never needed his medicine, but it was always there in a yellow case (it was his mother's idea) inside his sports bag.
In high school Kageyama joined Karasuno. It wasn't his first option neither he was pleased to find out he would be teammates with some of the most irritating human being on Earth (Hinata Shouyou and Tsukishima Kei, to name them). So in during his first few week in the team, Kageyama was sulkier than usual.
Now he was much more at ease. He has been a member of Karasuno boys' volleyball team for almost five months now, he developed a insane quick with Hinata and he was going to compete in the Nationals in just a few weeks. Future was bright and Kageyama was happy, so happy he forgot about the medicine in the sports bag.
