Kurt's Kick
My son, the kicker, prepares to kick the ball
His stomach probably is tossing and turns like a washing machine
as is mine
The schools are tied
6 to 6
The school's pride rests on his shoulders
If Kurt makes this kick
they will win their first game of the season
If he makes this kick
he will die a legend
Kurt is measuring the distance between him and the ball
The stands go quiet with anxiousness
Some silently praying he makes it
others...not so much
He dances his way to the ball and kicks with all his might
A brown spot flies through the air
The crowd stiffens with suspense
I shut my eyes and pray he makes it
and open them to see a referee with his hands in the air
The crowd roars with excitement
I shout, "That's my son!"
for all the world to hear
The Titans won their first game of the season
All because of my son
Kurt
