Prologue

Gamindustri: A land of luscious landscapes, where technology and nature coexist in harmony. Where adventurers and hunters fight against giant creatures, and the lands are guarded by goddesses, each powerful in their own right. For years, they ruled over the landmass, guiding their people. Peace is not always present, but plentiful enough to where everyone can live happy lives.

Everyone, except the goddesses themselves.

4 rulers for 4 countries, each with their own promises and goals. However, one constant remains to be fulfilled: the constant battle to rule everything. The goddesses all wanted this power for themselves. With views as different as the weapons they wield, they constantly travel to a land above the sky to try to best each other in combat. These skirmishes last for years at a time, leaving the land below to shape the land as they see fit. But they always return, ready to serve their believers until they were ready for the next fight.

The last fight, however, proved to be the beginning of the end to these conflicts, as one goddess in particular began to see how pointless the fighting had become. Seeking not to fight, she traveled back to the sky to try to reason with her competitors. However, with urging from an outside party, the three lashed out together, and sent the hopeful goddess back to the mortal plain, battered and bruised in more ways than one. The others felt their power waning as well and returned to their lands, planning on regaining their strength for next time. What they did not know, though, was that their entire way of life would change before them.

But to one man, none of this would happen. Not surprising, because he lives on another plane of reality.

He would never know the struggle of fighting monsters trying to get to a different town, nor would he fear that he was ever going to die just to earn a little bit of money. For him, these variables were safely controlled for him, as other people took the high road to defend the world from monstrosities. But he did know fear from his own species, as his humans constantly clashed for supremacy for different reasons, such as money and religious differences. And he knew that one day, some nutjob could end his life without a second thought. These thoughts terrified him to no end, but what could he do? The only one he could count on was himself. His kind heart yearned to try to help as many people as he could. That way, he would brighten up someone's day, even if it wasn't his own. If only more people followed the example he presented to them, maybe his world would be a better place.

Maybe that's why he was chosen.

Maybe that's why, with what little power was outside the goddesses' control, an outside force decided to draw in a random variable. One that no matter what hell was released upon it would always strive to help where he could. He would always try to see the good in all, even if it cost him his life. He would not be the strongest or the most intelligent, but rather the most determined. For he had been to the bottom of his sanity, he would make sure no one else would reach it in his presence. And maybe, just maybe, he would gain something from the experience as well.

In a world of chaos, one heart beats alone…
