Title: Secret Smile
Author: Stigmatized
Summary: Kai has a secret smile that he only ever shows Rei. KaixRei /ReixKai fluffy drabble.
Warnings: Shonen-ai of the KaixRei variety.
A/N: A 300-word drabble born out of pure fluffy boredom. That seems to happen a lot with me… Anyway, this was inspired by the Semisonic song 'Secret Smile' and is completely unbeta-ed. This is pretty much pure, untouched fluff. Very short and pointless, but I think it's sweet. *Shrug*

A glimpse, a small ray of light shining for a brief second through an impenetrable darkness, lighting up the large, empty cavern but plunging it back into the suffocating silence and darkness almost instantly. They were always small; the smiles Kai gave him. Always small and only when no one else was around. He saved up those smiles, especially for Rei to view.
They were priceless. Worth more than any piece of art or any sort of food or water. Rei lived to see those smiles, that slight raise of the corners of the pale lips, the right side always riding slightly higher than the left. He memorised the gesture perfectly, and when the Russian wasn't around he would close his eyes and see him smiling.
That secret smile that was saved especially for him.
He never showed any teeth. That would be a grin, and a grin didn't hold as much feeling as that small smile. So Rei never grinned when they were alone. He only returned those small, cherished smiles. Then he would take Kai's pale hand in his own and rub his thumb over it lightly. The pale cheeks would tint a light pink but the smile stayed.
The others used to jest that if Kai tried to smile his face would crack from lack of practice. Rei was glad they did that. It made the smiles Kai gave him even more special than they already were. During these conversations he would glance quickly at Kai and indulge in a small smirk before turning back to the others. The team never saw those moments, even when they knew the elder two were in a relationship.
It was for Kai and Rei. Nobody else.
And they cherished it. Those rare moments when they could be alone in the madness that surrounded them.
