Chris grabbed the apple on her desk and was about to leave the firehouse but ran into Russ, which cased her to drop the apple. Quickly she grabbed it again before it hit the ground.
"Wow, nice hand-eye coordination" Russ exclaimed.
"Well, yeah. That's one of the top reasons to date a pilot, they say" she answered looking past him, wandering if her friend had arrived yet. Chris was supposed to have lunch with an old friend from the Navy and she would swing by at the station first to pick her up.
"Name another one" Russ joked.
"OK, we've got extensive training" Chris tried.
"Now that was lame, Chris" T.C walked up behind her with a big smile on his face.
"I certainly don't have to tell you the reasons, you already know" she nudged him in the ribs and tried to get past the two men now blocking her way.
"Next" Bobby had now joined the crew and wanted to hear more reasons to date pilot.
"It was just a joke, I don't really know any more" Chris didn't want it to seem that she had a whole list of top reasons to date a pilot.
"Sure you do" Monica replied from her desk "all professions have at least a few reasons why they are the best bed partners. Like a cop for example; we have handcuffs"
"Ok, ok," Chris said and continued "we know how to push all the right buttons" They guys giggled.
"And that's not even the best one" Chris said and shook her head.
"Then which one is?" Jamie asked as she walked by
'When will this ever stop?' Chris thought to her self, once more looking towards the door for her friend. She took a bite of her apple as to give herself some time to think up the best reason for not reeling off a whole list of reasons to date her or her former colleagues.
"I sure wanna know the best reason" T.C continued prying.
"You know the best reason" there were a few 'Oohs' amongst their co-workers, but T.C just continued looking at her with a look asking her to do tell.
"We know a bunch of different manoeuvres, or we can go upside down, right side up –all around." More giggling from the crowd
"A little turbulence just makes things interesting, or the fact that we make smooth precision approaches, or that we get up and stay up for hours, and that suck, squeeze, bang and blow aren't just the four cycles of an engine" The last one made the crowd go silent and the officers shot a few strange glances between their Lieutenant and his wife.
"We never resign" came a strange voice from the other side of the crowd
"If we resign we crash" Chris continued as she elbowed her way through the little crowd in front of her so she could reach out and greet her friend.
Jessica Murphy's Navy uniform made most of the men drool, and her telling half dirty jokes about pilots in bed made her just a lot more attractive to Bobby and Russ.
"Did you mention that we use crew resource management?" Jessica asked Chris while looking at the two boys who hardly managed to keep their tongues in the right place.
"Yeah, but I think I forgot to mention that unusual altitudes are fun, and not to mention high thrust capabilities" actually this was fun when they were two about it, Chris thought to herself.
"Er…" T.C. had been quite still since the four cycles of the engine and now he had rather big problems swallowing. Chris patted him on the back, peaked him on the cheek gave them all a tiny wave before she walked out with Jessica. When they were only a few feet from the door she turned around again, locking T.C.'s longing gaze with hers and said;
"One last thing; Mile high club."
