Title: Rivals
Rating: K
Characters: Gary
Summary: And I think that if things had turned out differently, we could have been friends, Ash.
Disclaimer: Don't own it.
Authors Notes: asdfghjkl;. I love writing Ash!death fics. Nothing against the character, but it's just fun to write about how all the other characters are affected by it. This was originally a much longer story, but I decided that it would work better as a drabble.

"And I think that if things had turned out differently, we could have been friends, Ash," said the brown-haired boy with the rose in his hand. His dark eyes started to sob. He choked on his words as he stood in the middle of the church stage.
"I know that I acted like a jerk when we were younger, but I that's only because I admired you, Ash. I was always so jealous of you. Jealous of your adventures, your skills, your bond with your pokemon, and your friends. I wanted to be your friend so badly, Ash." He put the rose next to younger boy's coffin and sobbed into his tuxedo sleeve. Gary looked at the boy; long black hair parted to the side, a dark blue tuxedo with a beautiful white rose tucked in his right breast pocket, and the dirty baseball cap that he wore when he first began his journey. It was Ash's wish to be buried in his hat, and seeing the boy who was always filled with energy and spirit lay dead in the white coffin lifeless scared Gary.
"Wait for me in heaven, Ash. Wait for me, and when I join you, I'll kick your butt in a pokemon battle faster than you can say 'Oh, that's Gary Oak!'"
