"Grandfather, where are we?" Susan asked almost timidly, overwhelmed by the lights and the sounds and the crowds of people that she'd found herself amongst upon exiting the TARDIS.
"I don't know. It almost sounds like...But it couldn't be, I ordered the TARDIS to stay away from the Vegas galaxies." the Doctor said, taking in his surroundings which looked to him like the interior of a casino.
"The what galaxies?" Barbara asked as she eyed the quartet's surroundings with some distaste.
"After humans had expanded to the stars, some of the other races adopted Terran customs and ideals." the Doctor explained. "By the end of what would be your thirty-seventh century, two whole galaxies were dedicated to debauchery and hedonism."
"Two whole galaxies?!" Ian exclaimed, sounding as if he wasn't sure if he should be amazed, amused, or scandalized.
As Barbara and Ian looked to the Doctor, waiting for him to take the lead on this one, though it was looking more and more like they would be turning around and leaving without having explored with each passing second, the loud music that was playing overhead silenced for a moment as an intercom crackled to life.
"Sam Braun would like to once again welcome the Doctor back to his establishment and remind him that the usual rules apply. The staff of the Tangiers would also like to welcome the Doctor and remind him that he is not allowed to park on the casino floor. Thank you."
"Doctor, who is Sam Braun?" Ian asked as the white haired elderly time-traveler adopted a thoughtful expression.
"Braun, Braun, where have I...?" the Doctor muttered to himself. "Oh, now I remember, that time that Koschei got shot and buried in the desert and I had to dig him up before..."
Barbara and Ian exchanged glances over Susan's head, once again wondering what they'd gotten themselves into.
"Come along," the Doctor said as he turned back towards the TARDIS. "I've already been to the original Las Vegas once, and have no desire to explore it a second time. At least not now..."
As the TARDIS vanished from the casino floor, a team of CSIs were making their way across the lobby of the Tangiers.
"The staff at the Tangiers would like to remind the Doctor that no more than six people are allowed per room, and that each of him that is here counts as a separate individual." came over the intercom as the team made their way over to the elevators.
"What was that all about?" Sara asked as they waited for the elevator to bring them to the scene of yet another crime.
"I keep forgetting you're new to Vegas." Warrick said as the elevator doors opened with a cheery ding. "It's one of those things that only the casino staff get. Some people say it's a joke, but others swear that the Doctor is real and that there are at least seven of them that randomly turn up every year or so."
"Sam Braun would like to once again welcome the Doctor back to his establishment and remind him that the usual rules apply. The staff of the Tangiers would also like to welcome the Doctor and remind him that he is not allowed to park in the public restrooms. Thank you."
