I'm still dying over that phone call.

She stared at the phone, her heart twisting with so much emotions. It took her a minute before she reacted. Keeping the phone close to her ear, she waited until he had picked up.

'"Caroline?" His tone held confusion and nervousness.

"I.." She hesitated, as she started to breath heavily. "I shouldn't say this, but I think I should. I don't know if I would be able to say this to you again."

"Love.."

"No, don't interrupt me," Caroline said, breathlessly. Her eyes closed and she took a deep breath before adding, "I missed you." Klaus' heart skipped a beat. He found himself suddenly weak by her confession. "I missed you. I never once stopped thinking about you, you know?" She chuckled lightly into the phone. "As much as I hated you for that...as much as I kept myself busy with school and the crisis that's been going on, I thought about you. I thought about regretting not taking your offer to go with you to New Orleans."

"Caroline." Klaus held the phone close to his ear with a tight hold, as if someone would snatch it from him.

"No, shut up and let me finish. I know it's too late. I'm with Stefan now and you probably have a dozen girls swooning over your accent and dimples." She heard him laugh, smiling herself too. "I just wanted you to know that, Klaus."

"Love, I did say I intended to be your last, and I meant every word," he said, fiercely and sounded promising. "No matter how many girls I come across, you're the only one I'd come back to. There's no one out there like you, and do you honestly think you can get rid of me so easily?"

She laughed happily at that. "Got it. Good bye, Klaus." This time around, their good bye was not a sad one. This good bye was a promise, a promise of their future that would come. Maybe not right now, and probably not tomorrow, but they had forever after all. Like he had said maybe in a year or two or even a century, they would be together. For now, they would live on with their lives, but deep down in their hearts, they longed for that day to come.

Soon.

Very soon.
