Deakins showed his badge and made his way through the cells. He stood in front of one with his arms crossed and a pleased look on his face. Judge Garrett sat up and looked at Deakins.
"What are you doing here?" Garrett asked.
"I'm coming to show you how much you failed." Deakins said. "You tried to split up my two best pairs of detectives and you failed. Though they haven't been together that long, Barek backed Logan without a second thought"
"Yeah but I got to Goren." Garrett said.
Deakins shook his head. "No you didn't. Goren was pissed but not at Eames. He was pissed at you for using her to get to him. He was pissed that you went after his sick mother to get to him. Goren prefers direct attacks. Using the people he cares about is a low blow and it pisses him off. You're very lucky that he didn't want to prove Eames letter right or he would have gone off in the court room"
"So her letter is right." Garrett said with a smirk.
"No it wasn't. At least not anymore. Yes there was a time when Goren could have and would have snapped without a second thought. But now he has a partner that means the world to him and he will do anything to keep her around." Deakins said.
"So you're telling me attacking Logan and Goren was pointless." Garrett said.
"I'm glad you figured it out." Deakins smirked. "If anything you just made them fight all that much harder to prove you were guilty"
Garrett lay back down and Deakins let out a full blown smile. He turned and walked away. Outside the jail house waiting for him was his detectives.
"What are you four doing here?" Deakins asked.
"A little bird told us you were coming to visit Garrett and we thought we'd come see you after." Mike said.
"This little bird wouldn't happen to be my wife would it?" Deakins asked.
"Sorry sir. Can't betray our sources." Bobby said.
"You're not reporters therefore are under orders to report all sources to your CO." Deakins said.
"We'll risk the trouble." Alex said.
Deakins smiled. "So if you were talking to my wife, any idea what I'm having for dinner"
"Same thing as us sir." Carolyn said. "Angie invited us over for dinner"
Deakins nodded. "Of course she did. I swear I have to stop telling that woman things"
"What do you mean?" Mike asked.
"When I was up against the brass to get each of you, I said if any of you were reassigned against my wishes or yours that I would hand in my badge. Angie knows how much you guys mean to me." Deakins said.
"She's not the only one who knows." Bobby said.
"We know too sir." Carolyn said.
"Not much you can keep from us." Alex said.
"Well let's get to my house before Angie calls about us being late. Being blamed for me being late is one thing but being blamed for all of you is another." Deakins said.
They all laughed and followed Deakins away from the jail house.
