A/N: Hi guys, I'm back with this one-shot that came to me the other day. Hope you enjoy it, please don't forget to review! WARNING: THERE MAY BE FLUFF!

Disclaimer: I don't own these characters; I just like playing around with them.

The Blood-Sucking Beast

That hot summers night, the castle had been attacked. The creatures ravaged through the castle, making prey of all the inhabitants. Feasting on their blood with their especially devilishly designed mouths built for that purpose. Left behind, only the mark of their bit and-

"IT'S SOO ITCHY!" Howl exclaimed, clawing away at his arm. Sophie sighed. He was making more of a fuss then Markl was.

"Stop scratching, it will only make it worse!"

"Yeah Howl, don't scratch it..." Calcifer interrupted, sniggering behind one of his logs.

Howl threw a death glare in his direction. His arms were covered in itchy red marks left by only one thing –

Mosquitoes.

Sophie walked over to Howls outstretched arms and started rubbing some cream on them. Howl sat in his chair, slumped and pouting. As Sophie grinned at his childish expression, Howl pouted harder.

"It's not funny!" he exclaimed, "How come they came for me? What did I do?"

"They're supposed to like sweet blood" Sophie replied. "And anyway, they bit Markl too, and he's acting more grown up than you are about it."

Howl looked angrier still until he decided to turn on his charm. "How come they didn't bite you then? You're the sweetest person I know."

He smiled when he saw her blush slightly. "Maybe they had heard of 'Horrible Howl' and decided to give him what he deserved." Howls smile disappeared. Sophie knew him too well. She walked over to the small red haired boy sitting opposite on the table to tend to his bites.

"You still haven't answered my question" Howl said, clearly annoyed by the mocking he was getting.

"Some people think that Mosquitoes are attracted to bright colours. You certainly wear a lot of colour" Calcifer decided to add another of his opinions into the mix.

"Well, actually I got bitten at night and I only wear simple clothes at night that are black and white and on the very rare occasion blue so shut up you don't know what you are talking about!" Howl blurted out in one long rambling sentence.

"And still, nobody has answered my question. Why do I have to suffer with these bite when Sophie doesn't!?"

Sophie had finished dosing Markl and was putting the cream away in the cupboard. "I don't know. I never get bitten by bugs, never have" she said quickly.

He murmured a reply. "Lucky so-and-so..."

Sophie looked at Howl who was in a right state. "Well, I'm going out and will be back later"

"NO, Sophie don't leave me!" he cried, (pathetically in Sophie's opinion)

"You complain so much, I think you just like the attention." With that she took her basket and left.

There was silence in the castle for at least 10 minutes until Markl finally spoke up.

"Um, Calcifer?"

"What?"

"If you were protecting the castle, how did the mosquitoes get in?"

The fire demon was burning low in the grate.

"-"

Howl and Markl looked slightly at each other.

"Oh what a nice day I think I'll go out too..."

"CALCIFER!" Howl and Markl bellowed as the demon flew up the chimney.

"Few! That was close. I think it would be best for me to wait until Sophie gets home"

He flew through the sky laughing at the havoc he had caused. He was dead meat.

A/N: Well hoped you liked it. I could totally see Calcifer doing something like that. We all love Calcifer though so it's Ok. Please review, I like to hear what you have to say and I do take criticism.

Au Revoir!
