Max watched Steel flit around his room to avoid looking at him, and he couldn't help but frown at this. Steel always got like this when he took the time to actually think of how odd their relationship was. It also made him feel sort of guilty, but every time he looked at Steel, these thoughts just had a way of sneaking up on him.
There were so many reasons this shouldn't work between them, that it should be nothing more than just a partnership, but while being bonded together had the effect of making them able to annoy each other with their thoughts, it also gave them a deeper connection, as neither of them had been quite able to spit out the words 'I like you' enough to initiate a relationship. It just snuck up on them, but it wasn't like they were complaining about it.
Well, Max thought he was, if he kept thinking of how odd and unusual it was for what they had. They had no similar forms, and it made kissing incredibly awkward. When Steel would run his arm through his hair, the pointy tip would sometimes scratch against his scalp.
It was painful, awkward, and downright unpleasant sometimes, but the good always won out in the end.
They could sit together and watch a movie, never having to make small talk as they could just enjoy each other's company. Their teamwork had improved greatly once they sorted out their feelings regarding one another. And while they sometimes still bickered, it was more teasing than out of animosity like in the beginning.
In the end, Steel was more than just some machine to him, and Max hoped he was more to Steel than just some human.
Steel came floating up to him, but didn't touch him as he might accidently scratch him again. "Of course you are more than just some human to me, you're my human."
Max felt his lips curl back into a sardonic grin. "Then does that make you my machine?"
"Yes, yes it does." Steel said simply as he placed one arm on Max's hand. "I do not know what humans would call this, but I know what I can call it."
Max raised a brow. "What?" he asked curiously.
"Ours." Steel answered firmly. "I call this thing we have ours."
