"Where is it?"
A bead of sweat trickled down her cheek. She hid the object of every man's dreams behind her back. "I don't know."
The masked man growled. "Tell me now!"
She squeezed the small, flat object even harder. "I s-said I don't know!"
The man lost his patience. "FOR GOD'S SAKE, JUST GIVE IT TO ME ALREADY!" He lunged in for the kill.
Lillian screamed and scrambled over the back of the sofa. "GIVE IT TO ME!" Kakashi yelled and chased her around the room. "Noooo! Never!" She squealed as she tripped over one of her many sketchbooks strewn over the floor. With a thump she landed on the floor, her chocolate brown hair scattering and the little orange book skidding across the hardwood boards. Kakashi scrambled to his feet, lunged- and grabbed it.
"Got it!" Kakashi jumped to his feet and held the first volume of "Icha Icha Paradise" up triumphantly. Lillian frowned and got to her feet. "That's mine! Give it back!" Kakashi turned to glare sternly at her. "Honestly, Lilly-chan. Since when do you like these books?" Her frown deepened into a scowl. "Since I saw you reading one. I just wanted to read it, but I knew you'd never let me." Kakashi sighed and shook his head. "That's because these books are too mature for you." "I'm NINETEEN already! NINETEEN, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!" She yelled. "No." Kakashi crossed his arms firmly across his chest. Lillian sighed, closing her blue eyes. The battle had ended, for today at least.
They'd known each other since they were kids, in the academy. He'd been known as the calm, cool genius, she'd been known as the smiley kid who'd always trip over her own feet or shout out ridiculous answers in class. They were polar opposites, but somehow they were attracted to each other: as friends.
They'd been separated after they took the Chuunin exams. He went on to study to be an ANBU, but she failed the Jonin exams. She never took them again. Instead, she studied to be a medic-nin. Their paths separated after that.
Then, one warm spring afternoon, they met at a ramen bar in the central district of Konohagakure. He was with his students, his face surprised but never losing that forever-cool demeanor of his. She was stunned. She didn't know how to react. In the end, he broke the silence with a smile and the words,
"Long time no see. How about some lunch? My treat."
They'd kept in touch since then. While they did not live together, they met up every other day, or when he wasn't on missions or she wasn't on duty at the hospital. She was great at cooking, and she cooked him meals when she wasn't ticked off at him.
Commence round two.
"Give it here!"
"No!"
"Give it!"
"NO!"
Tackle. Crash. Bang.
"OWWW! KAKASHI-KUN YOU HURT ME!"
Lillian sat up in tears, holding her right arm. "Oww!" Kakashi nimbly leaped over a chair and crouched before her. "Where?" Lillian showed him a large graze on her forearm. A drop of blood fell onto the hardwood floorboards. Before she could start up a healing jutsu, Kakashi sighed, grabbed her good arm and yanked her up. "C'mon."
In the bathroom, Kakashi picked up a roll of wide gauze bandage and started wrapping it around her arm. Lillian gazed at him with her bright blue eyes, looking up at him from her wound. "I should be doing this. I'm a medic-nin." He scoffed. "It's a guy's job. Anyway, like I care." She just smiled, and the smile was reflected in her bright blue eyes.
