A/N: This is slightly AU. Maddie knows Danny's secret, but he's never gone into space like he did in some of the episodes.
CHALLENGE!:
This is a super short oneshot, but it's also a challenge. I'd like to see how far you can take a happy lighthearted story that's related to the idea in here.
A couple guidelines:
- Danny needs to fulfill his childhood dream in some way.
- No romance in this one please. (Sorry)
- Ideally, your fanfic should be rated K – K+. You can make it T if you want, but it'll be a lot harder to be happy and lighthearted if you put in content that will make it deserve that rating.
- Please, please, please, no crude humor.
:)
Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Danny Phantom, nor do I own the stars . . .
The Spirit of Childhood Dreams
High above the ground, Danny zipped through the night sky. He flew at least as high and fast as an eagle. Away from the cares of the world below him, flying's freedom was a pleasure for the boy. He laughed as the adrenaline brought from his speed shot through his system.
He loved flying, yet, there was something more he wanted to do. Danny wanted to fly, but he wanted to fly high enough to visit the stars and catch a nap on the moon. It was a boyhood dream for him to do such things, and there he had the perfect chance to fulfill it before he grew up and gave up on his dream.
Danny loved the stars from the time he was a little kid. Stars held a hypnotic beauty that people could see on a clear night away from the lights of the city. Everyone knew the stars were there, but very few had actually gone into space to get a closer look at them. Danny wanted to be among the few that did. This desire was the fuel behind his dream to become an astronaut.
While Danny was caught up in the euphoria of feeling the rush of going against gravity, his mother saw what he was doing and worried for her child. She knew to expect thunder and lightening that night and could see the silhouettes of the approaching storm clouds. When the storm came rolling in, her son could be electrocuted and she blanched at the possibility. She wanted her son to get out of the sky before her nightmarish thoughts had a chance to become reality.
She called out to him, "Danny come down here! I don't want you up there when those clouds come!" Judging by his complete lack of reaction, she could tell that her son hadn't heard her at all. As she feared, Danny was too far up to hear her voice and her warning.
Back up in the sky, Danny accelerated against the air resistance. He wanted to go to greater heights, closer to the stars he yearned to visit and the moon he wished to rest upon. He wanted to go above where the storms of the world could ever reach him.
He had the means to go to space and leave behind the planet's worries. His ghost powers granted him the ability to fly of his own power, defiant of physics. Why couldn't he go where he most wanted to go? Danny Fenton was eager to explore the ageless vastness of the heavens.
