The Lonely Dog
It took a moment for the situation to sink in. Apparently, Rin had been picking flowers as always but ended up wondering away from Jaken and getting herself lost. And when Kagome found her, she didn't remember anything about the place she had been in. So with a sigh, Kagome had taken the young girl's hand and the two had been making there way towards Lady Kaede's house for quite some time now. The sun began it's decent into the horizon and darkness was quickly approaching.
"Lady Kagome?"
"Yes Rin?" The girl was playing with her finger's, as if she were embarrassed about something.
"My feet hurt." Kagome smiled.
"How about a piggy-back ride then?" Rin's face lit up and she practically jumped on the teenager's back. The tree's shadows were stretching across the land and a light breeze was flowing throughout the forest. It was very quiet but Kagome could sense Rin's fear and she took a deep breath.
"Hey Rin, would you like to hear a story to pass the time?"
"Yes, please." Kagome looked to the sky, thinking about anything she could possibly use as a children's story. It'd been so long since she was a child that all of the fairytales she'd heard growing up were lost somewhere in her memory. Then it came to her. "I know, it's called The Lonely Dog and it's a true story. You wanna hear it?" Rin nodded excitedly. "Alright. Once upon a time there was a beautiful dog. She had long black fur, bright white teeth, and dazzling amber eyes. She was a princess and was betrothed to a very important Lord like her. But the princess had fallen in loved with one of the enemies of the black dogs, a powerful silver dog, and the two had a baby boy puppy. But on the night he was born, his father died in a fight with the princess' original fiance. For a long time it was just the puppy and his mother until she too passed away from old age. And the little silver puppy was all alone."
"He didn't have any friend's?" Kagome shook her head.
"Being a half breed, on the night of the new moon his fur would change from silver to black for a whole night. And because of this, all of the other black dogs made fun of him and didn't want to be around him because he was part silver dog. And the silver dogs tried to eat him because he was part black dog. So for a long time he had no one. When the puppy grew to be a dog, some one told him about a magical stone that could make him a full silver dog and very strong. But it was being guarded by a young black girl dog. It wasn't long before they fell in love. But because a mean gray dog loved the black girl dog too, he tricked the two into hurting each other and the girl passed away from a terrible wound. The boy dog was put under a spell and slept for fifty years until one day another girl dog came along. She was lost and accidentally lifted his spell. She was lonely as well and really needed a friend. But no matter what she did, the silver dog never completely accepted her. He was mean to her, insulted her, and sometimes even did things to purposefully make her jealous when all she wanted was to be his friend, to be more than his friend. But Inuyasha is so caught up in his ways that he can't see my kindness and pushes me away every time I try to get close to him." Kagome paused when she realized what she said and then cursed mentally.
"Lady Kagome, is the lonely dog Lord Sesshomaru's younger brother?" Kagome sighed.
"Ya, that's him." There was a pause.
"Will he always be lonely?" Kagome looked up and saw Inuyasha nearing her, Kaede's house not far behind him. She could tell he was rambling on about her being late and having the little girl with him. But for the moment, all she saw was the sleeping boy that was her first sight the day she fell down the Bone Eater's Well; beautiful, silent, and suffering. He's come so far.
"No, I don't think he'll always be lonely Rin."
