Ch.1 /Fate Cousland/ The Blackest Night
The night my family was murdered, I ran. I fled into the cold and darkness alone, knowing that it took the effort of everyone left just to save me. Perhaps I could have saved my mabari, Spot, If I didn't leave him with Rory, but when I asked Rory to come with us, to safety, he refused.. He was ready to give his life to save me, the least I could give him was my Mabari, and a hug. When I hugged him goodbye, reality struck me. I remember thinking over and over, "I'm going to die."
I checked every room, gathered every person I could find and killed every one of that bastard's men until I reached the servant's passage. Father… Father was so bloody, so pale. Even though I could see he wasn't going to make it, I didn't want to believe it. I begged him to get up, but he just shook his head, and whispered "I love you, pup."
Mother smiled at me and told me to go, and I was shocked. The servants already left, and if mother stayed, I knew she'd be dead before long. I started crying, but I accepted it, I couldn't deny her request to die beside Father.
There was a crashing sound, and mother told me to go, the gates were open, It'd only be a matter of minutes before Rory, Spot and the other guards were dead. I could hear screaming and fighting, I prayed that if they were going to die, they here, and quickly. The last thing I wanted was them to be tortured 'till death frees them.
I ran outside, into coldest, and blackest night I've ever faced. There was no moon, no people, only silence. I travelled south through the forest. I wanted to be far, far away from home, from the screams, the blood, the nightmare. I walked the entire night, and half the next day before I collapsed, near the edge of the forest. When I woke up, A lady with short red hair smiled at me and offered me some bread. She told me she heard about what happened at the castle, and recognized me as lady Cousland. She gave me some food, and told me I should be on my way before word gets to Howe that I was there. I thanked her and kept travelling. I didn't know that the real nightmare was about to begin…
