Some angsty Jarida for you all because winter is coming ...
He still remember that bitter winter.
Chilly cold, gloomy winter that felt like home to him, but not to her.
The winter that he was familiar with because he would feel it everyday, yet it was foreign to her even though she experience it every year.
He cringed as he remembered it.
He shivered as from goosebumps as he remembered her face, her expression.
Pale purple skin, frost-bitten lip, cheeks as cold as ice and eyelashes sprinkled with the snow.
The snow guardian tried his hardest not to tear up. Not to look weak around his fellow guardians.
It was a blank December that day, the whole day was canvas white. Nothing interesting but the exception was Jack's handiwork, snow. No, it was more like a blizzard.
The god of wind and snow had was having an argument, resulting to Jack failing to control them.
He bit his lip harshly and for the first time, he could feel the merciless ice arrow piercing through his immortal skin.
Pretty pathetic for a winter Guardian to feel cold... The boy thought to himself, smirking slightly, a cold breeze entering his mouth and grazing his teeth.
The red-head archer was walking behind him, a leather-covered hand grasped the end of his coat, teeth chattering loudly whilst red curled locks danced violently through the wind, whipping her face with the snow.
The two was making their way back to Scotland from visiting Berks, took the path that the Will O' of the Wisps led them to and ended up being on a longer path they had been travelling on. And to their misfortune, a blizzard was brewing.
As 20 minutes passed with the two bravely fighting through the ivy attacks, Jack felt the pressure on his coat slowly dropping, he turned around finding his redhead companion lying on the knee-length snow.
"Jack.." She croaked out as he scooped her and placed her on his knees, wrapping his arms and coat around her, his way of preventing hyperthermia. "Can' go on.." She said again with a small voice, burying her face into his chest.
And now, he saw the proud girl shed tears. Though he can understand.
"It's... It's going to be okay, Merida.." He reassured to her, tightening his embrace to keep their remaining body heat in.
For the record, this was the first time that he called her by her name. Usually, it's with nicknames like 'Princess' or 'Nest-head'.
But this was the first time he went serious with the Dunbroch heir.
No, he would not let anyone close to him die. He can always save them, right? Just like how he saved his little sister from the frozen lake... Though his life payed the price.
"There's a town nearby.." Jack said with full hope, hoping that the girl will believe his sweet little lie, hoping that she will still hang on to dear life. "I can see the lights! Stay with me, Merida! Just a few more and we'll be there..."
"Bu' it's so cold, Jack..." Merida's voice was now smaller then before, he could hardly hear it. Brushing off the hair on her face, he could vaguely see her eyes fighting to keep open, but he could see it failing.
"Don't you dare- Don't you die on me, Merida! You're stronger than this!" His breathing hitched, getting closed to tears as life slowly faded from her complexion.
"-Sorry... Jack.." She said, tears leaving her eyes as her head leaned against his chest. "Jack, I wan' to let you know that I..-"
And all life faded as she coughed horribly from the winter's essence.
And everything was silent. Still holding the girl, he cried his life out, hugging her to keep her heat in and thinking that it was a way to pull life back to her system.
And for once, he detested his season.
Jack poked the window, making a snowflake print by the touch of his fingertips beneath the glass, remembering the unfaithful day the redhead lass has passed away.
