Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter! It's owned by J.K. Rowling!

Author's note: For some weird reason I always thought that it was Snape's love for Lily that caused all of Voldemort's problems, so I wrote it. Enjoy!

Only at the time of his death Voldemort realized that the greatest mistake of his life wasn't leave Harry James Potter alive, but kill Lily Evans Potter.

The Lion in Winter

He was being defeated not by the Boy-Who-Lived but by a muggle red-haired woman who had died a long time ago. When he killed Harry Potter he felt part of his soul being ripped away and while it was happening he saw a piece of Severus's memory, saw Snape asking for Dumbledore's help, saw what Severus was capable of doing for one Lily Potter and, finally, understood. He loved her...always had.

Severus Snape turned his back on the Dark Lord, because he killed his immortal love. That woman's love protected the child for such a long time and made him lost his body, that muggle-born witch was the motive behind his most trusted death-eater's double life and treason, that damned Gryffindor was the cause of his defeat, even if indirectly!

He, Voldemort:the powerful dark lord, was defeated by the power of love.

How ironic…

Staring for the last time at those green emerald eyes, Voldemort didn't see the golden boy, but a red lioness roaring her victory while a long black snake was lying down beside the great feline as if it was always meant to be.
