A/N: I'm not even going to apologize for this.
It was over. It was all over. The war. The final battle. They had won, but the price was high.
Percy was dead. Piper was dead. Leo was dead. Hazel was probably going to die from her wounds. Frank was wounded, they all were, but he was alive. Annabeth didn't know where he was; she couldn't see him. Jason was kneeling a few feet away with his head in his hand, crying. Annabeth should have been crying too, but she just felt numb.
Her two best friends were dead. Just like that. She had seen them both die. She had actually seen the lights go out of Percy's eyes. Leo may not of been her friend, they may not have even liked each other, but she trusted him with her life; she cared about him. She wanted to cry, so badly, but no tears were coming out.
Annabeth wanted more than anything to leave, to run away, far enough that her problems would be left behind, but she couldn't. She was needed here.
She walked over to Jason, dropped down beside him, put her arm around him. She wished that she could tell him that it was ok, that everything was ok, but it wasn't ok. It would never be ok.
"I'm here," Annabeth whispered. That was the best she could do. It may not be ok, but she was there.
Jason leaned into her. He was sobbing.
There were people all over the battlefield. Some were dead, some were treating the injured, some were injured, some were walking around aimlessly, some were crying. There was blood everywhere. Annabeth and Jason were both covered. Some their own, some other people's. Annabeth had gotten a pretty bad cut on her leg, and a camper she couldn;t remember the name of had bandaged it up. Jason's entire right arm was bandaged, Annabeth couldn't remember why.
After Jason stopped crying they sat in silence. Annabeth didn't know how long that sat there for. Hours? probably. They watched the sun fall behind the earth, and the stars start glowing. People started moving the dead. There was a camp set up behind Jason and Annabeth a ways away, so people had to walk past them to get anyone there. They saw the bodies.
Conner Stoll, Drew Tanaka, Lacy, Dakota, all dead. Annabeth was glad that they had won, but the cost was hard to bear. These were her friends, her peers. She fought beside them. Even if she didn't know them, she knew that they didn't deserve to die.
Nobody moved Percy, Piper, or Leo, who were all in front of Annabeth and Jason. Nobody dared to. Everybody knew who they were. They were part of the seven of the prophecy. They were the reason everyone had died. They were the reason they had won.
"We should move them," Jason finally said.
"Yea," Annabeth agreed. They got up and grabbed Piper. Annabeth's leg was hurt, but she still managed to limp over to the camp. They brought Piper onto the Argo II, which would probably never be able to fly again, and put her down in the helm. They went back and got Leo's body. He was lighter than Piper, so he was easier to carry. They brought him to the Argo II and put him down in the helm beside Piper. Jason and Annabeth went back one last time, to get Percy. That was the hardest for Annabeth. He felt dead when Annabeth picked up his legs. He was cold and limp. He was heavier than Leo or Piper had been, so he was the hardest to carry. Her and Jason carried him to the Argo II and lay him down beside Piper and Leo.
That was when Annabeth stopped feeling numb. She broke down into tears. They were dead, and they weren't coming back. If she was lucky, she'd see them in the underworld, but the chance was slim.
"It'll be ok," Jason said, putting an arm around her. His voice cracked, "one day it'll be ok." He started crying. Annabeth hoped that Jason was right. Annabeth knew better, though. It would never get better, but life goes on.
