This story is one of my literacy homework tasks this year.

This might seem short, but it actually took two sides of an A4 piece of refil. And my writing is quite small.

Disclaimer: I do not own Detective Conan.

Heiji was never really an obnoxious little boy, he just didn't get along very well with 'bad people'. Since his father was a police officer, he was raised to believe in justice and to support the 'good people'.

One day, Heiji's father and his workmates were having a dinner party at a distance restaurant, somewhere around his workplace. Little Heiji was left home along with his mother.

Heiji was bored, so he went out for a walk after saying goodbye to his mother; a woman who looks very young and is the kind that lets her son to go out by himself even when it's dark. The minute he closed the door, an ominous wave of wind blew past him, making the hair on the back of his neck stand up.

Heiji turned to the direction of the wind, but did not see anything strange. He continued walking.

A few minutes later, Heiji became aware of footsteps behind him; perfectly synchronised with his. Heiji wanted to turn around, but in truth, he was a little scared. He walked another few steps, hoping his stalker would go away.

They didn't.

Heiji finally turned around.

"What is your problem!" He exclaimed.

He was facing a man with cuts and bruises all over his body. This person was on TV the other day; said to have robbed some jewellery store.

Heiji gasped. "You're the bad man!"

The 'bad man's' eyes widened, and then they turned sad.

'Little kid…" The man began in a throaty, scratchy voice. "I was only one caught in tyranny. They took my family and forced me to commit crime for them, those rotten officers. The real bad men is them…

"But what's the use, telling you these things." The man turned away.

"I'm sorry, little kid, for giving you bad memory. I really am…"

The man walked away, into the darkness, so far away that no road lights can reach.

Heiji stood there for a brief moment, staring at the direction the man went. He faintly remembers he is forgetting to ask why the man was following him, and many other things.

Heiji walked back to his home, still in daze. When he got home, his mother yelled at him for coming back so late. He ignored her. Instead, he asked:

"Hey, mum. Are all bad people bad?"

His mother stopped her rambling and looked down at Heiji, who looked so innocent, so serious and so sad at the same time.

Heiji's mother didn't know what happened, what to do, but she kneeled down and embraced Heiji, her eyes closed and lips in a thin line.

Heiji didn't understand, why he was feeling this way, why his mother was hugging him, and why…

But for one thing, he understood.

That was the first time Heiji had given pity to a bad person.
