((Spawned from a drabble prompt on Tumblr. Just something really quick.))
Tooth looked from her hands, and then back at her wings as they beat against the air, keeping her a loft. She didn't want to do this, but Jack had to be stopped. Pitch's reign of terror had to end, and along with that, Jack's as well. Their power was already fading quickly, and all of the Guardians knew this was their last stand against the evil that had taken hold of children, even if they never spoke it aloud.
Looking over at North to her left, he held a large burlap bag over his head like a war flag, signalling he was ready. To her right was Bunnymund, covering the ground. He nodded slightly at her in acknowledgment. The plan? Take back Jack Frost. Destroy Pitch's hold in this town, if not everywhere. It was a lot to take on, but faith and a little hope seemed to carry them through.
Taking a deep breath, Toothiana prepped herself before diving down into the town. She was just a blur as she sped past, a flag on a building she passed caught her breeze before settling again. Her target was a window straight ahead- her fairies having scouted the area beforehand for Pitch's and Jack's whereabouts.
What she wasn't expecting however, was for the window to be flung open at the last second, a pair of pale hands heaving it up. Tooth's eyes widened as she tried to stop herself, her wings almost stopping, but her momentum brought her forward all the same. She shielded her face before impacting with the wall, although it helped little, as she was still rather dizzy when she turned around slowly.
Holding a hand to her crown, she blinked, trying to clear the stars that were dancing in front of her now. "Jack?" She called out, knowing he was in the room although she couldn't see him quite yet. Backing against the wall, she neglected to bring her wings in- preparing for a 'flight' instead of 'fight' response. Toothiana stopped moving, as she heard a sharp intake of breath and felt her wings sink into something slowly.
No… Oh, no… Stepping forward, her fears were confirmed as she heard a squelching noise and a small moan. Turning around slowly, she covered her mouth with her hands as she gasped. Seeing Jack in front of her, sliding to the floor of the childless room in his own blood that seeped through a large gash in his chest and another in his arm, which although a clean cut, they were deep and bleeding profusely. Already it was staining his sweatshirt, pants, and pale skin. She had done that. Her and her stupid wings, ruining something yet again.
She knelt down beside him as he looked at her, his eyes hard. "Stupid bird." He spat out, blood staining her feathers as she held him close to her chest, cradling him like she had Baby Tooth before. As much as he tried to keep up his act, even his wall started to crumble.
"Jack, N-North and Bunny can help you. Right? You're not going to die." Toothiana said quietly, more to reassure herself rather than him. "You can't die." But it was in vain, as his blood covered her hands, her feathers, and the floor. His breath was becoming more labored with each passing second, as she brushed the hair out of his face, humming quietly. Her voice shook, but she wanted to calm both of their nerves.
"Thanks for the thought, Tooth…" He said, his voice so soft and weak she could hardly hear him. "I'm… I'm sorry." She didn't have to ask what he was apologizing for- she knew. And as his eyes stared at her face, unseeing, her body shuddered as she bent over him, hot tears mixing with his cooling blood.
She had killed Jack Frost, and it wasn't part of the plan.
