So, this summer I went to my very first summer camp ever! Next summer I hope to go somewhere with a little less outdoors-y-ness. AKA band camp. I mean, I love the outdoors, but there was just too much there. We had tents with no light that were extremely stuffy. Not my thing.
Anywho, I also learned this song, and my first thought was Leyna (wow, my PJO-ness can even get annoying to ME). So here it is! After five whole months since being written! :D
Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
With the moon shining all around
As they pushed their paddles through the water
They didn't even make a sound.
Reyna sat silently in the canoe Leo had "borrowed" from Camp Half-Blood. The two of them pushed their paddles through the dark lake water, making only the slightest of splashes. If they were any louder, the harpies would find them. Reyna thought she wouldn't mind that very much if not for the fact that they would be eaten alive. Perhaps if some campers were to find them…
Reyna felt her cheeks heat up, then she thought, Why am I blushing? It's not like this is a date–oh, I hope it's too dark for Leo to see–and you're only doing this so that he'll stop asking you to go on one with him.
The moon shone bright and true above them, giving the lake's lazy ripples an almost romantic glint. Leo ran through a list of line in his head. Despite how brave he had tried to seem earlier, he was totally freaking out now. After all, it was Reyna, and she was in a boat with him, on the lake, with no one else around.
So they talked and they talked till the moon went dim
And he said, "Better kiss me or get out and swim."
So what'cha gonna do in a little canoe
With the moon shining all a–
"So…" Leo said. He felt so awkward.
"So." Reyna had no idea where this was going, and she felt her palms getting sweaty.
"So."
A few more minutes passed in silence until Leo blurted out something that would have earned him a facepalm from Piper and Jason. "Is it true that you behead people and put them down in that dungeon room in the principia?"
Reyna's head whipped to face Leo. For a few seconds, all Reyna did was look at him with raised eyebrows. Finally, she said, "Where did you hear that from?"
Leo could feel a blush creeping up his face and shrugged. "Just one of your campers."
Then Reyna laughed. "Who would have…do people actually think that about me?"
And so thus begun real conversation. They talked about their little adventures and how they got to camp and so forth until the moon reached the western horizon. They grew quiet again as they realized how much time had passed.
"Well, Reyna, I've got you here–"
"You've got me here?"
"Fine, you're here with me on a cone, in the middle of the lake where you can't get away from me except by jumping out and swimming to shore. So you'd better kiss me or else you'll be soaked when you get to shore."
"No way, Valdez."
"Aw, come on, Reyna!"
She smiled. "Fine." The two leaned in and when their lips were only an inch apart, Reyna pulled back and knocked an earnestly confused Leo overboard, where he splashed around for a while, trying to get his bearings, while Reyna laughed.
Boy swimming all a–
Girl floating all around.
Smart girl!
"Wha–Bu–Reyna!" Leo spluttered.
That just made Reyna's laughs louder. When Leo tried to grab the boat, Reyna shoved her paddle into the water and pushed away from him as she called out, "See you at the dock, Fire Boy!"
Rights to Rick Riordan and whoever made the canoe song.
Quote of the story (having nothing to do with the story): "I'm pretty sure we almost broke up last night. I threw my phone across the room at you. I said we should talk about it, 'cause I read you should never leave a fight unresolved. That's when you came in wearing a football helmet and said, 'Okay, let's talk'" (Stay, Stay, Stay, Taylor Swift)
