Angel Boy
By Megan

I splashed cold water on my face and then stared at myself in the mirror. My tired, worn-out eyes looked back.

"Another night without sleep." I sighed. I shut off the faucet and left the bathroom. I headed for the front door, stopping by my room to grab a jacket. I stepped outside into the bright morning sunlight and started walking. As I passed a church, i stopped and turned to stare at it. I found myself thinking of Sister Helen, my surrogate mother, and all the things she'd tried to teach me.

Sister Helen said there's only one way
Sweet angel boy, narrow and straight
Time it has passed, teachings they fade
Now her angel boy has gone astray

I've held the hand of the Devil
Felt his breath on my skin
Dip me into the water, wash me again
Can I still be forgiven for all of these things
Or have I gone too far now
Have I lost my wings

The next thing I knew, I was pushing open the door to the church. I wandered down the hallway and noticed a door marked 'Pastor.' I knocked on the door.

"Come in!" I heard a voice call from inside. I opened the door and went inside.

*What am I doing here?* I thought.

"Hello, son," the pastor said. "Why don't you have a seat?" He nodded at a chair and I sat down.

"What can I help you with?" he asked. I found myself telling him who I was and why I was there, something I didn't think I knew.

I found a pastor, I spoke my mind
Asked if I'd sinned one too many times
He said, "My son, you're only a man."
Then I said, "Sir, you don't understand."

I've held the hand of the Devil
Felt his breath on my skin
Dip me into the water, wash me again
Can I still be forgiven for all of these things
Or have I gone too far now
Have I lost my wings

The pastor stared at me in surprise after I'd told him some of the things I've done, the people I've killed, and the anger in which I'd killed them. I stood up, thanked him for listening to me, and left the church.

Later that night, the other Gundam pilots and I sat around our living room, each of us doing our own thing. I watched the others and I sighed. Then I did something that I haven't done since I was younger, I prayed.

God, help us all for what we have done
We've lost our way, we can't find the Son
We make our beds, we seal our fate
Is there still time, or is it too late

We've held the hand of the Devil
Felt his breath on our skin
Dip us into the water, wash us again
Can we still be forgiven for all of these things
Or have we gone too far now
Have we lost our wings

I prayed for them and for myself. I prayed for our friends. I prayed that God would forgive us all for what we've done.

We've held the hand of the Devil
Felt his breath on our skin

Can we still be forgiven for all of these things

Have we lost our wings

Then I got my answer. Yes, God would forgive us. If we would just ask.

Have we lost our wings

No, we haven't lost our wings, not yet.
