First of all, sorry for taking so long! Truthfully, I am irritated that I couldn't get past that writer's block. I mean, I knew what I wanted to write, but I couldn't get it down.
Ok, here is the first chapter of the sequel to my story the girl he ever thought he'd love. Just a reminder, this is an LoTR story with characters based on the Outsiders! It will mainly focus on Amber's journey through middle earth. It will take three chapters for Amber to get to Middle earth.
Edit Note: I made some changes. To elaborate I changed mostly the wording, and added minor details. I felt like I could make this better, so I did. Or at least I tried.
I do not own LoTR.
Amber laughed as Lassie dropped the ball in front of her before dropping into a play bow. Lassie was ten years old now, and he still acted like a puppy some days. She closed her eyes briefly after she threw the ball for him. Amber was a day way from being sixteen, and if she was honest with herself, most of her life was not always as peaceful it was at that moment. The opportunity to stand in the playground with her eyes closed was a rare treat compared to how she often found herself looking over her shoulder.
On days like these, Amber could clearly remember her childhood. At the time her world seemed like a bucket which overflowed with joy, hope, and mercy. It seemed then that her little bucket world was perfect, that the 'badness', as she was prone to call it, was a trivial thing. The 'monsters' were condemned to live in her closet and under bed. And her father, mother, aunt, or uncles were always enough to keep them there.
It wasn't until she turned twelve that she found out the bitter truth. The monsters that her father had protected her from hadn't been the misshapen shaped obscured by darkness, but other people in Tulsa.
She had been attacked by a group of socs that day. On her birthday no less. She had gone to the park to do something, she couldn't remember why anymore. What she could remember was three older, and better dressed kids had approached her. And when she honestly thought back, all she could remember was the leers on their faces as the caught her, the sound of her screams in the air. Five hours later she woke up in her own bed with a bump on her head, and a rather nasty cut on her shoulder.
That was the day her father explained the difference between the socs and greasers. He told her about how they just had to deal with it, and move forward. She remembered how hard his voice had been when he spoke to her. But his eyes ... his eyes had never looked as sad as they did that day.
Amber opened her eyes, and smiled as Lassie pressed his muzzle into her hand. She smiled at him, and rubbed his head lightly. his tail wagged lightly, and she could almost believe that he knew what she was thinking about. As she gestured the faithful dog to follow her, Amber decided to draw another picture of the faithful dog when she got home. Drawing had always been a great love of hers along with singing.
Amber had taken three steps when she heard the sound of loud, drunken laughter. Amber turned to see five boys staggering around clumsily, as they playfully pushed each other. Based on the fancy car they had parked and the fancy clothes, it was clear that the boys were socs. One of the boys spotted her, and shouted loudly for his friends to hear before they headed in her direction. Amber felt her face pull into a frown, and walked away as quickly as she could without showing fear.
It was useless though, the socs had her surrounded a few minutes later. Amber schooled her face to show a cool, unaffected expression as she looked at the group. Personal experience had taught her the result was better when she didn't show fear.
They boys jeered at her for a bit before the leader, a boy with smooth brown hair hissed, "Hey grease, you want to have some fun grease? We could show you a lot of fun things grease, we might even be friendly about it if you play along." Amber scoffed at the number of time that the term "grease" was used. While some socs used it to seem superior, they only seemed stupid in her own opinion. Amber rolled her eyes lightly as she snapped, "If you thing I'll just sit here while you use me, then you're wrong."
The soc laughed for a minute and whispered something to the guy next him, and tried to grab Amber. But she had been expecting something like that, it was a pretty normal tactic for them. As usual, she stepped to the side and punched his nose with her right fist. Using the brief time advantage, she brought her elbow back to hit one of the other boys in the eye before she used her left fist to punch another boy.
Amber fought them for as long as she could, and she knew that they would go home nursing their own injuries, but the boys still outnumbered her five to one. It was only a short amount of time before they had overpowered her. Amber frowned at the boys again as she struggled against the sets of hands that held her arms. At least Lassie had managed to get away from the soc who had gone after him with a switch blade. She had been worried that the dog was too old to run fast enough to get away.
She studied the leaders face, he has brown eyes, and despite the broken nose, she supposed that he was quite good looking. If he hadn't been a soc, and she had known him, she supposed he could be the type of guy she had a crush on. The thought did little to change the way she glared at the leering expression on his face. He laughed, and stroked her face as he said, "You thought you could beat all of us sweetheart? All you did was make us want it more." Amber rolled her eyes again, then bit the socs hand, making him swear before he pulled away.
Before the soc could do anything else, someone rammed into him, and knocked him to the pavement. A second later two of the socs who had been holding her arms had been yanked away. Amber smirked lightly at the the stunned expression of a soc to her left, then kneed a sensitive spot and punched him in the gut. It was only a minute before the socs fled as quickly as possible. Amber laughed as they stumbled drunkenly along, socs never liked fair fights.
Amber leaned over to stroke Lassie's head as he wagged his tail happily. She straightened a minute later to grin at the people who stood before her. Her twin brother Austin, little sister Nate, and younger cousin Bailey panted slightly. Apparently Lassie had ran off in order to find someone to help her.
Bailey cocked an eyebrow (an ability he had earned from his father along with his rusty hair) and asked, "Why do the socs always attack Amby? I mean, they went for Aust a couple of times, same with Nate. I even got attacked once. But ain't this the seventh time?" Amber shrugged her shoulders, and shuffled her feet. Amber tried her best to keep her eyes off of the two almost parallel scars on her sisters face as her as her stomach twisted uneasily.
She knew the reasons why she she attacked so often. First was the fact that she was the daughter of the Dallas Winston, a greaser who used to have the worst sort of reputation. Second was the fact that her mom, Andromeda, had given up the rich life she would have had if she hadn't married Dallas. A lot of socs were still angry that Amber's mom had done that despite the fact she had never been one of them. Last of as was the fact that she had apparently gotten her parents good looks, that was what other people said anyway. The last reason rarely had anything to do with it, though.
Austin sighed and said, "Come on, we should get going." Amber nodded, and Nate wrapped her arm around her shoulder as the walked together to the Curtis house like usual. They were all laughing cheerfully by the time they got there. Once she had greeted everyone, Amber walked straight for the desk and started to draw Lassie. It wasn't long before she had become absorbed in her work. Drawing and singing were what Amber did best, but she was not confidant enough to sing in front of a lot of people. Also singing was more of a hobby.
The clock on his dress read 2:01 in the morning, but Dallas continued to lay awake in bed. Andy moved slightly in her sleep, but didn't wake up. His face turned to the clock again as he frowned to himself. A lot had changed in ten years. Darry had wound up being the athletics director and football coach at the local high school Everybody knew he could have done better elsewhere, but he had refused to leave. Johnny also worked at the school now. He had become a guidance counselor along the way to help teen with addiction. Ponyboy had become a comic book artist before he married the greaser girl who he had a crush on in middle school. Unfortunately, Pony's wife had died due to problems during her pregnancy, and his little son Artie had died mysteriously in his sleep two days later.
After Sandy ditched him, Soda had initially decided that he wouldn't date another girl again. That had all changed once he had met Katie at his new job where he tested out cars for some company. They had gotten married, and now had a son named Jared who loved to play pranks. Steve also worked at the same place as Soda. Steve had actually gotten engaged to his long time girlfriend Evie, before she saw killed by a drunk driver.
Two-Bit and Seffy still had only one kid, their son Bailey. Unfortunately, Two-Bit had to drop out of law school due to the money issues they started having a while back. Now, Two-Bit also worked at the construction company that he was a supervisor for.
It seemed strange to him that his three children were teenagers. He was barely into his thirties, and Amber and Austin would turn sixteen tomorrow. Dallas groaned, he was just glad that he already had Amber and Austin's birthday presents. Andy, Seffy, and Cherry were still having problems with their bake shop. It seemed the socially elite wanted them out of businesses.
He frowned lightly to himself, Amber had managed to unofficially get a job at the horse stables. She would get payed a small amount, and was allowed to ride the horses that were there. Dallas wouldn't admit it, but after the incident with Sparkles the horse when she was ten, he did not what his daughter to get on a horse again. But Amber loved to ride just like he did.
Then there was that boy who Amber had a crush on. Tyler France. Dallas didn't like the boys almost arrogant manner. If it was up to him, the boy would never have gotten within a half mile radius of his daughter. Dallas sighed as he rolled over. It was late, and he needed his sleep. He would talk to his daughter about that boy tomorrow.
So this is the end of the first chapter. I will update tomorrow. I promise!
Anyway, can I get at least three reviews please? I really want to know what you guys think. Those who review get an imaginary treat of their choice made by Andy, not Amber (Amber can not cook).
