Dark, dusty, a bit spooky as well, and in any case forbidden.
This was the room down the hallway in the second floor, next to his fathers lab, and ever since he could recall this room was mysterious to him holding a secret that asked to be uncovered.
But it was locked.
Every once in awhile he would stay in front of it trying the doorknob but the things inside never wanted to tell him their secrets.
Then, one day everything changed.
Maybe his father had been inside before not bothering to lock it again, or the possible existing deities had made the decision to give in to him.
The interior was rather unspectacular, the only i in there coming from a light bulb. - A few bookshelves were holding books separated into two sections as he noted. Unfortunately there were more of them than the furniture was able to bear so there were a few piles of books next to many cardboard boxes covered in a thick layer of dust; only a recently opened box appeared to be more clean. Curiously he took a step forward examining the content of this particular box.
Awards and lab utensils, but the most interesting thing was an album filled with documents, newspaper articles and pictures. Strangely enough all the people shown on these pictures had great similarities, they all resembled...
"Son?", the Professor had stepped in again to look for something I didn't take with him last time. The child closed the album and turned round to see his father holding the book tight to his chest.
"Dad-" - What's all this about? These books, the pictures, the people in this book-
Sighing the adult came closer and bent down.
"Son. All things you can see here are the heritage of our family." - It has been a circle all the time. None of the offsprings in the family ever wanted to follow in the parents steps, to take up their profession. This is the only reason I had to separate the books into two sections, they seem to be not compatible.
"My father Dib himself was ingenious in his field of 'science'. When I grew up I turned to science, much to his dismay. He had wanted me to become an investigator of the - paranormal - 'science' just like him." The boy's eyes widened,
"Is that why..?" His father nodded silently.
Fortunately...or unfortunately- we all have been headstrong getting the way we wanted to in the end, which is quite sad to lose a brilliant mind as you to the non-scientific side.
"Dad. I'm not- insane. All I ever wanted was-"
"To talk to me this way?"
I already know that I will not be able to make you change your mind, and even though I know this I keep trying- but not with a bad intention. The things my father called me once hurt me, but they made me strong on the other hand as well, and you will need the same strength as me if you want to reach your aim. This is all I want to accomplish now.
The boy out the book back into the box, smiling slightly as he headed for the door. Before finally exiting the room he looked back one more time,
"Thank you dad."
Eventually getting up again Professor Membrane stood there for awhile, thinking. Even if he wasn't pleased with most of the things his son did he was at least proud to have this kind of independent children.
Just like himself once.

Great thanks to JoeMerl for the inspiration =3
Hopefully this one makes sense...at least the moment I wrote this it made sense to me.
"Invader Zim" is still the property of JV (= not mine, duh).
