Ponyboy POV
Physics was the only class I had with Johnny. We always anticipated this class the most. Yeah, this was the only class Johnny was passing(because I was here) and yeah, because Johnny was here I wasn't the only greaser in class, but all the same, we enjoyed each others company.
However, Johnny wasn't here. Come to think of it I don't remember seeing him at lunch. I wonder where he is. I felt my face fall. What if his dad hit him again? Then my cheeks began to burn with rage. That bastard better not have touched him! There was a quiet shuffling in the room, but I ignored it.
"Alright!" Our teacher, Mrs. Oreo called. She began calling roll. "Melissa Arlington?"
"Here."
"Jenna Blake?"
"Here."
"Mitchell Butler?"
"Here."
Uh oh, she's gonna call Johnny next. I was trying to think of an excuse, but it was too late. "Johnny Cade?"
"Here." Johnny called from beside me, making me jump out of my chair. I landed right on my ass. The class busted out laughing, not caring if I was hurt or not.
"Mr. Curtis, if you don't know how to sit in a chair properly, you can stay after class and I'd be happy to teach you." Mrs. Oreo said.
"I'm alright." My face was red from embarrassment. She continued calling roll, skipping my name. I was sure everybody was aware I wasthere.
"You alright, man?" Johnny asked, it didn't look like he had laughed at me for busting my ass, but I still glared at him. I wasn't gonna talk to him, not yet at least. I angrily opened my binder and pulled out a sheet of notebook paper. I quickly scribbled down in my handwriting:
Where were you? I was busting my ass trying to cover for you!
I folded the paper quickly and shoved it on his desk. He looked at me, then opened the note. He read it, and then began to scribble down words of his own. He finished and place it shyly on my desk.
I opened the note and read:
I was in the bathroom, would you like to know what I was doing in there, nosy?
Oh. I felt bad for getting mad at him, and I was sure he was upset with me. I quickly wrote:
Don't be mad Johnny I didn't mean to be rude. I'm sorry. I just thought you got hurt or something... I was worried.
I held the note out so that he would have to grab it. I needed him to face me. He turned and had an expressionless face, I gave him my best apologetic face I could muster up, and he smiled and wrote his message to me. He then passed it back and I read it:
It's alright Ponyboy, I forgive you. But if you really must know I was in the bathroom with Lindsay.
I looked at him in disbelief. He just smiled shyly. I shook my head as I wrote:
No way!!! Way to go Johnny! And since I'M so nosy I have to ask what you were doing in there???
I pushed the note eagerly waiting for the reply. He passed the note back to me before I knew it.
We just talked is all.
I rolled my eyes.
You can talk in the hallway. What were you really doing?
He sighed.
You 're not gonna let this go are you?
Not till you tell me!
I told you, we just talked and... stuff...
Stuff like kissing?
Shut up Ponyboy.
I looked over at him and his cheeks were red and he was smiling to himself. It was nice to see him smile again. It was nice to know that he knew people loved him. And if we wanted him to stay happy, we'd have to make sure him and Lindsay stayed together. It was up to me and the gang to keep him happy. I wonder what Johnny's getting us into...
A/N: What did you think? Review! NO FLAMES!!!
