Stars
One day they took the stars from her.
She didn't see it, didn't suspect or know or wonder. One day they were, the next they weren't.
Gone, all gone.
Bright lamps, glowing and shedding light down the path to her house, lighting the way through the woods.
They broke the bulbs and the lights went out and she was lost in the woods. Wandering in circles, trapped with the wolves and the thorns. Feet left the path and she got stuck.
Simon came and took her out, back to the path and away from the wolves.
But he can't give her back the stars or the lamps or the lights, and the wolves circle, flickering in the corner of her vision.
Simon tries to keep them away, but medicine is ineffective. Only stars will work, and she doesn't have them any longer.
They took them all away, and left her with a handful of broken glass for her troubles.
