I hope you enjoy this short story so let's begin!
I woke up to a light shining into my room. I used my arms as a shield to keep the light out of my eyes. Today was Thursday, and I had to go to school; whether I wanted to or not. Having no desire to get up, I fell back down to sleep. A good half hour later, the sound of my mom yelling at me through the kitchen woke me up.
"Harper!" she called. I wiped my eyes. She continued to call my name and I never responded. Instead, I shoved my head into my pillow. She eventually came marching through the house. "Harper, dear," she began. I could tell she was mad. "you have to get up right now. You overslept and are normally about to leave!" I looked over at the clock, which said 7:30 on it, and I rolled over. "Harper, get up now." She threatened, "Honey, I will have no choice, but to enroll you into saturday school." There is not a single word that scares me more than saturday school. I jumped out my bed and threw on a hoodie. I grabbed a breakfast bar and ran out the door.
Finally, I was in the car. I was sure I would be late again, like always. As I was sitting in the car, all my mom did was lecture me. Like that would make me want to get up in the morning. The car ride was long and dreadful. I only listened to small pieces of what my mom said. Once we arrived at the school, I hopped out of the car and closed the door. I walked the horrible walk of shame to the front doors of the school. I passed a number of students who looked like they were going to strangle me if I tried to tell them hi. In the crowd of people. I finally saw my friend.
"Holy cow!" she said. "I thought you weren't even gonna come!" It was Maddy. Maddy was my best friend since third grade. We've always done everything together for as long as I can remember!
"Why aren't you in the school yet?" I asked.
"Trust me, Harper. I don't want to be in that school any more than you do." she said.
"That's true. So what are your plans for the weekend?"
"The usual."
"And what would that be?"
"My mom is dragging me to some silly sewing class."
"Wow. I'd hate to be you right now."
"Yeah, no kidding. You should come!"
"I think I'll pass, Maddy."
"I'll have no one to talk to otherwise! Please just come.
"I can ask, I guess."
"Yay!"
"No promises."
We walked into the school and went to our lockers. My locker was on the complete other end of the hallway, So I had a while to walk. Upon arriving at my locker, I noticed something a bit strange. Not a single person was in any of the classrooms. I finished at my locker and was walking to my room, which, like the rest of the rooms, was dark and empty. The door was locked so I just stood there awkwardly for a while. After sitting and waiting for a bit, I heard someone come over the speakers.
"The fire drill is over, staff. Tell the teachers they can come inside." It was my principal.
Oh, great. Now all of the students are going to come piling inside. I cleared was for all the kids and teachers to come in. Finally, I saw my class. Hallelujah.
In class, we just sat and talked and took notes. Asides from the school notes, there were also notes being passed. Christin loves to write Maddy and me notes. They all were just little messages saying "Hi" and asking "when this period ends".
