Disclaimer: I don't own HP.
A/N: I had to put a Longbottom, Dorcas Meadowes, and rain into one fic. This refused to be anything more than a drabble.
"Dorcas, no – Dorcas, don't you dare … Dorcas, it's raining, you idiot!"
"That's the whole point!" Dorcas explained, swinging the door open and running into the rain, her laughter echoing behind her.
"Dorcas!" Alice cried, pelting to the door but going no further. "Dorcas, come back inside before you catch a flu!"
"Who died and made you a Prefect?" Dorcas yelled over the noise of the wind.
The rain pounded down, hitting the ground with such force that it rebounded a few feet into the air again. The wind howled and whipped the falling water in every direction it could. Dorcas was spinning, twirling, laughing, dancing. Her hair spiralled around her as she spun, water droplets flying from the tips.
She loved the rain. It gave her a sense of freedom that nothing else could bring, it made her feel up to anything. It calmed her. The sound of it against the roof, the feel of it against her skin, the smell of it as she inhaled through her nostrils … it made her feel at home. It made her feel safe, protected, invincible.
She ran back to Alice and threaded her fingers with hers, pulling her into the rain despite her protests. She spun around, effectively spinning Alice, too. Alice cried out and scrunched her eyes shut. Dorcas laughed at her. She pulled Alice in, giving her friendly peck on the lips. Alice's eyes opened in shock and Dorcas shot her a toothy grin.
"Just let go, Alice," she said, starting the spin the two of them round again.
For once, Alice listened to her best friend and let go, laughing as they spun around the grounds, clutching each other's hands as if life itself depended on it. They were drenched, breathless, and dizzy, but they didn't stop. Alice understood why Dorcas loved the rain, now.
A/N: Yeah, that kiss? Purely friendly. Girls do it all the time ... or at least, in my area, they do. Do they do it in other places, too?
Would it be too much to ask for a review? Even if I said 'Pretty Please With a Harry Potter DVD Special Edition Boxset on Top'?
