The letter
Part1:The letter
Chapter 1:The South Pole
The flight for safety continued. Tenzin and his family were now heading for the South Pole. Jinora, her brother and sister just experienced fighting against equalists, alongside ex Chief of police...their hero. The hero who just jumped of Oogi and destroyed one airship, to save them. Making the other turn around letting them go.
"That lady is my hero!" Meelo started.
Tenzin turned around looking at the greying sky. "Yes...she is." He muttered.
It was late that evening a couple days later, when they arrived at their destination.
Katara heard the bison landing with a thud and hurried outside. "Tenzin what are you doing here? Is something wrong?"she asked, seeing the sad looks plastered on each face.
"Its Amon and the equilists. They were attacking and well I came here to safety Korra her friends and Avatar...Kallik are still in Republic City. Reinforcements will arrive in a few days time. I will then be heading back to the city once it's save ." He replied professionally.
'Another Avatar?'Katara thought. 'That couldn't be.' Her mind was in turmoil. A lot of unbelievable and strange things happened on their journey, but this was certainly a first. The master would have to ask about it at another time. "Please come in and I will get some beds and tea ready for you." She invited, walking back inside.
When everyone was settled inside:"Gran Gran Korra was captured by an evil pony tail guy." Ikki jumped to start a conversation. "But she came back. With her boyfriend. Korra has a boyfriend. Did Gran gran date any other boys before grandpa Aang?"
The question caught her of guard and was unexpected. Yet again almost all her questions were.
Jinora cleared her throat. "It reminds me of this one-"
"No one wants to hear about your boring books." Ikki interrupted.
The older sibling glared at her. "You don't even read, how would you know if it is boring?" Jinora pointed out.
Her sister stuck her toungue out at herr.
"Ikki don't tease your sister." Pema scolded.
"You should tell me that story some other time." The waterbender answered at Jinora's statement, trying to stop the argument in sight. "It sounds like a great adventure!"
"Lady Lin is my hero!"Meelo joined the conversation.
Katara raised an eyebrow at the airbender mentioning the earthbender. "And why is that?"
"She saved us from the airships and metalbended one to the ground. We helped her defeat the bad guys!" Meelo answered, with a wide grin.
"And then what?"Katara asked smilingly. The youngest airbender only stayed quiet. Tenzin buried his face in his hands. Only Pema seemed unaffected by the question. It was like she didn't care at all which made their eldest daughter's blood boil.
'Doesn't she care? Chief Beifong defended our family...maybe even the entire Air Nomad race!' Her eyes widened at the thought.
Realizing what happened Katara squeezed her son's hand saying: "Oh don't worry I'm sure she is alright."
Growing rather tired of the conversation, Jinora headed outside without making any noise. She sat on the edge of a huge ice berg. Where Korra used to sit when she was upset. Something was poking at her side, making her rather uncomfortable. The airbender reached for one of her pockets, taking out what was bothering her.
"A letter. When did that get there?" She asked herself. The ninja like Jinora walked or more like sneaked back to Katara's house. Her father and grandmother were still talking.
When brown eyes didn't find her mother. She assumed Rohan, Ikki and Meelo were put to sleep.
After awhile. Jinora said good night to everyone. Her parents kissed her goodnight. The warmth of the blankets, started to spread over the young airbender. As well did curiosity, but she had to wait. Wait and listen. Before the message could be read.
The last thing she wanted. Was her sister poking her nose in where it didn't belong. The ten year old didn't like reading anyway. No, Ikki liked rainbows, sparkles and moonlight punch.
'That doesn't even make any sense.' Sometimes the airbender wondered why she wasn't as silly or...wild as her siblings.
Everything was silent, except for the howling winds outside. Eagerly Jinora started opening the letter, trying to be soundless. Once she stole a glare Meelo and Ikki's way. The bookworm was fairly certain they won't awoken anytime soon.
It was a rough week for them after all.
The paper smelled of dust, tea and had a metallic scent than could be ether blood or metal. Jinora instantly thought of Lin. The earthbender she and her siblings loved and admired so much. Always excited when they heard that she was going to join them for dinner or going to babysit(much to Lin's dislike but had fun and enjoyed the kids company) on very rare occasions.
"A letter aunt Lin? More like a novel!" She thought giving a famous earthbender's smirk. The airbender read the letter over and over and over! The girl was shocked, scared, happy, excited and surprised. To tell the truth she didn't know how to feel. After all these years she finally have answers!
Now she knew why she was different from Ikki, Meelo and probably Rohan too.
Why she struggled to learn airbending and had more trouble with the gates than normal.
Why she had traits neither her mother or father could explain.
Why her temper was considered not very fitting for an airbender.
Why she always felt like she has a connection to Lin. She is the ex Chief of Police's daughter!
The shocked expression subdued to a bit of sadness. "...Why didn't you tell me?"
'...I didn't know how.'
"Didn't you want me. Didn't you care?" She murmured, holding back tears threatening to fall.
'...For I have always did what I thought would be best. Even if it hurt the most. For you to keep the family I couldn't give....'
"Did you even wanted to tell me?"
'...I had to keep the truth. I had to live with that guilt.'
"But why?"
'...Because I love you and I always will.'
The last sentence hit her like a rampaging sabre-toothed-moose-lion.
A smile spread across her face. As quickly as it appeared it vanished. What will happen if her mom and dad found out? A frown appeared on her face.
'But my mom...isn't my mom. This is so confusing!'
Jinora also didn't think they knew. Of course she knew it was a secret needed to be kept.
Deep down she was also scared. What if Lin got hurt or worse! What if she will never get to spend some mother daughter time with her. Will she will never have a special bond with her?
More doubts filled her mind.
The grey clouds above Air Temple Island and the smoke filled air, could all be remembered. The last glance the Chief gave her way. What if it is the last? Would she always have a side to her life, Jinora would never know?
"No!" She exclaimed, regretting the action when Ikki got up.
"Wha? Jinora."
"Shhh it's ok. Go back to sleep sorry I woke you."
Ikki mumbled something and buried herself under the covers once again.
With relief she sighed. 'I will not let that happen!' The determined girl thought to herself. In a whispering tone: "I will do whatever it takes ,but I will not lose you again...mom."
A/N: I do not own Legend of Korra. There chapter 1 is redone. So how was that? Better or worse than the original? I would love to hear your opinion.
