Happy Christmas

Harry wondered why on earth he had decided to stay for Christmas break. A day until Christmas and what was he doing? Going to Detention with Snape, Brilliant. Hermione and Ron had somehow escaped punishment and were in the Common Room doing God knows what. He rolled his eyes as he entered the dungeon and made his way to Snape's classroom.

"Professor?" he asked as he knocked on the door.

"Come in." came the growl from the front of the room.

Harry took a deep breath before he opened the door and entered the damp classroom.

"You know the drill." Snape said, not looking up from whatever he was writing.

Harry nodded and walked over to a desk piled high with filthy cauldrons. He grumbled a bit as he began to clean them, one by one. It would take him at least an hour and a half, if Snape didn't make him re-clean any of them. He glanced up, over one of the cauldrons, and stared for a moment at his Potions Master.

The lighting behind him gave him the weird effect of glowing and for some reason that made Harry smile. He shook whatever thought had been in his head away and returned to his punishment, glaring at the metal with fierceness.

The ninety minutes crawled by, Harry was beginning to think they'd never end; that he'd be cleaning cauldrons forever. But finally he finished the last one and put them all away. He approached the desk with caution; it appeared that Snape had almost finished what he was working on, whatever that was.

"I'm finished." For the first time Snape looked up and at the table.

He nodded briefly, "Go back to your dormitory." He said in a monotone as he returned to the paperwork.

Harry raised an eyebrow but nodded, as he reached the door he turned back and waved his wand. A nearby piece of parchment turned into a vase and filled itself with colorful poinsettias and tied a ribbon around itself.

"Happy Christmas, Professor." Harry said, giving the professor a smile.

Snape glared at the flowers, then at the boy, "Happy Christmas, Mr. Potter. Now go, before I give you another detention."

Snape sneered as he watched The Chosen One disappear through the doorway with a smile across his features. He glared some more at the flowers before returning to the essay's he was grading. His eyes were determined to look at the flowers though, and he had to pull them back to the task at hand. Finally, after a few minutes of debate, he looked at the flowers and felt the corner of his mouth curl with a slight sigh of annoyance.
