This is my own made up story of how captain montgomery could have met and promoted beckett. It started out as a promt for my creative writing class but before I knew it I had a whole made up back story for beckett and montgomery. I hope you enjoy it. Beckett's POV.
I'm crouched over a box of case file. My mother's case files. It's dark and everything in the room smells of mildew. I really shouldn't be here. I'm only a rookie blue, but no one's around, and this was why I became a cop, right? I wasn't really sure how long I had been in there, reading the reports over and over again running my fingers over the crime scene photos. It could have been hours, but suddenly I was aware of the shadow of a figure being cast over my shoulder.
I dropped the files and stood straight up, startled and stammering, finding myself face to face with Roy Montgomery. Captain Roy Montgomery.
I blew it. I know what's going to happen next. I'll be demoted back to patrolling traffic, or worse, they'd confiscate my badge. I felt hot tears swelling inside my eyes, threatening to spill over.
"Officer Beckett?"
"Yessir?"
"You know this is a restricted area right?"
"Yessir," I say as he bends over picking up the scattered case files.
"You know what I have to do next right?"
"Yessir." He paused.
"This is your mother."
It was a statement not a question.
"Yessir."
"You see Kate I've had my eye on you for awhile I've seen you come down here before, and I've done some digging of my own."
Oh. Where was he going with this?
"You see, once I found out about your mom, it wasn't hard to put two and two together about why you were down here. You have more determination and fierceness than I've seen in a rookie in a long time, and that's what makes for one hell of a cop."
"Thank you, sir."
"So I have an offer, I walk out of here. You put that box back, and I pretend I never saw you and tomorrow morning I'll call you into my office and recommend that you be promoted to detective in my department, homicide. You accept?"
My breath caught in my throat, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This was it. This was one step closer to justice for my mother.
"Yessir," I said giving him a slight smile. And with that he turned and walked back up the stairs and out of sight.
