A Treat

So, finally, beneath an ivory autumn moon, they met face to face.

She smirked inwardly at the surprise and skepticism in his eyes when he absorbed her infant form. He was just like all the others, and he would meet their same fate. Her tiny, rotting heart extinguished the flame of hope that he would be different from his predecessors, and she spared a curse for her inability to expect nothing new.

Though dubious, he consented to sit and chat with her, and eventually came to accept that she was who she claimed to be, and he asked (what an idiot!) if she had some sort of genetic disease that stunted her growth.

No, she said. It's more something to do with blood.

Looking at her askance, he changed the subject and her childish laugh couldn't sound wicked though it was.

I know how I look, she said, but when we talked online there was something between us. Would you please just . . . kiss me? I won't ask anything else of you.

Slowly, doubtfully, he complied. Her lips touched his, then moved to his cheek, traced his jaw, moved down his long, sinewy neck, found that vital vein. She latched on and her fangs emerged, pierced, and she reveled in the delicious blood that flowed into her open, eager mouth.

His moans of horror and pain were hymns in her ears. His vivid blue eyes wept unbidden, and she was certain she had never tasted sweeter tears mixing with a victim's blood. Perhaps it was because he had been so anxious to find a new love after his other girl had jilted him, and now again he had been betrayed, but in a much more horrific way.

In her short arms she cradled his heavy lifeless body against her flat chest. She closed his blank eyes and kissed his unresponsive lips for a time before finally releasing him.

Poor Kouga, she said as she gazed down at him and licked the final traces of blood from her lips. Of course you couldn't measure up to my Lord Sesshoumaru, but your efforts weren't unappreciated.

With that, Rin flounced away, her thoughts dreamy and filled with huge white dogs and cataracts of blood, so much sweet, hot blood.
