Daughter of grief, sister of sadness, brother of pain, and a prancing child of true gladness; salt water is boon from a myriad of emotions. It flowed unlike blood, reflective of worldly lesion, deliverance only in expression instead of life giving blessings.
Unohaha always knew Kenpachi could cry, that he never felt need to, she always took reprieve in. Many she'd slain or healed, bled their hearts down their eyes, and though she knew this to be natural as breath and air in all her age, she could never rid herself the envy.
Perhaps if she were like them from the start, she would not have despised her existence so.
Perhaps she would not have found exhilerence in drawing life's strings through holes, till they snapped like the delicate threads they were. She doubts this though, because death has always been her number, her companion and shadow; she'd long forgotten how to extricate it from her being.
That Zaraki carried something of the same with him too, she also drew comfort in.
She wishes she didn't have to witness his tear.
She's quite sure, he does as well, but would hate her for the dishonor she's doing him.
It doesn't stop her from sedating him heavily with Minazuki through his throat. Their work is not finished, and his training must continue, no matter how many times she has to snap his thread to re-tie it, break his blade to re-forge it.
He's peaceful in that standing sleep, she kisses away the lone drop in the span before his wake.
It's the last thing she'll take from him.
A/N: this is my attempt to understand chapter 524. I'm pretty sure Unohana did stick her zanpakuto through Kenny. The thing I wasn't clear on was how Ken woke up from that black out while holding his zanpakuto whole- when she clearly snapped it in half while stabbing him with it earlier. It doesn't make sense if the whole ken crying thing was just kenpachi halucinating- because the blood spots that landed on her face when she stabbed him are still there- and that lecture before about not speaking of respect mid battle doesn't comply with Unohana waking him up when he blacks out in a battle to the death. If it's a battle to the death- you kill your opponent when they blackout- not stop and wake them.
Which means Uno is going easy on him, she somehow fixed his blade in between, then gave it back to him, healed him, then rewoke him- staging the whole thing as one continuous battle.
This is the only way apparently to make him reach bankai and defeat her, put him through almost death experience- fix him and repeat.
I don't know what Kubo is going to do with Kenny after he finishes this fucked up training regiment. I worry what will happen to his psyche if he realizes what Unohana has done.
