The Knight in Blue

By DorkPangs

Summary: Just a sort of eulogy for a certain wizard. Spoilers for the Half-Blood Prince.

A/N: Just my sort of tribute to Albus Dumbledore. I think I cried the most when he died, so… Oh, yeah, I don't own Albus or his death (thank gawd), the whole Harry Potter thing belongs solely to J. K. Rowling. Let me know what you think of the poem!

The knight in blue

Crinkles cradled his smiles

Noble and true

His face beaten by a tempest of trials

Yet life filled his frail body to the brim

Emanating light to others

So blind, so hateful, so hopeless, so grim

They couldn't see friends, enemies, lovers, nor brothers

Suddenly he would ignite the torch

A candle of wisdom for those who would simply grasp it

Or a blaze of fury for those who would underestimate its scorch

He kept the signal fire lit

That could never quite clear the haze

But always the goal shown bright

He kept the world going with a simple phrase

A spout of truth that could settle any plight

He was a sky with two half moons

We thought him master of the tide

So, we never expected the monsoons

That swept him aside

He was a knight that kept everyone believing

And beneath the shiny blue armor, we forgot

A human stood breathing

And we should remember what he's taught:

Always we'll have to choose between what is easy and what is right

For it is our choices that show what we truly are

Alone we cannot win the struggle of life's fight

Because only united can we go far

Truth is a beautiful and terrible thing,

And should therefore be treated with great care

Only with acceptance and understanding can truth be freeing

Only with a broad perspective can we do what's fair

Remember, death is but the next great adventure

Let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress

For the knight who was worth every lecture

And always remember that the dead we loved never truly leave us
