Type: Major angst!!! I (a dedicated Shipper) have written a fic for No- Romo's!!!!! The Shippers on the CADF list are gonna kill me!!!

Disclaimer: They aren't mine. They belong to Chris Carter. But the names are only mentioned once in the whole fic so who cares? All you need to know in the beginning is "he" if Mulder and "she" is well, duh, Scully.

Evening by the Sea

It was dark. The stars glimmered and shone brilliantly in the sky and the moon was full. Their combined light shimmered in the ocean and cast faint shadows as the sun would have through clouds. The beach was bright and alive. But for him it was dark.

Everything seemed dark to him these past few days. Ever since the day he lost her.

They had been friends for so long and he loved her so much. It only seemed natural to him to bring it to the next level and become lovers. She had agreed to a relationship, albeit reluctantly, but had put her whole heart into the effort. She did care for him, loved him even, but the intensity of his love was more than she could take. It's power was to great. She cared for him. He knew she did. But his pressures only drove her away. And then he had lost her.

Sitting on a rock he stared with unseeing eyes at the waves crashing on the sand. He watched a young couple strolling hand in hand at the waters edge. Without words they reached for each other and kissed and then just held one another.

He remembered a time when he had taken her to this very beach. It had been their special place. He remembered kissing her that way. How they had danced in the breakers. Her laugh... he remembered.

He watched as the couple separated and the young man bent down on one knee. He didn't seem to care that his jeans were getting wet or maybe he didn't even notice. Anxious yet apprehensive he held open a small box.

Though he was to far away to hear what was said he knew the answer when the couple embraced again. The embrace would not be the last.

He could remember times like those. Only days ago he had held her, feeling the need to hold her forever. He would do anything to have a second chance, to have her bach. Without her he was nothing, a frail shell that could be crushed to dust at any second. Without her he was lost. And eveything was dark.
