Pony: Short thing I wrote ages ago. It's been sitting in my notebook for a year at least.
Poneh: We don't own anyone/anything in this story EXCEPT the page, Gail, who is so ordinary, we are slightly ashamed to admit that.
Pony: Whatever, please review and let me know what you think!
Just Let Go
'Kitten...' A shiver ran down her spine. On this day, she always mourned the loss of her friend, Liam the Dragon. This year, she felt him closer. It had only been five years.
"L…Liam?" She whispered, looking around the room. Nothing moved.
'It's just my mind.' She told herself, leaning over and crying again.
"Kitten, please don't cry for me." She looked up again and saw a man before her. His sight was so welcome, she let out a gasp of delight.
"Liam…Is that you?" She looked on in disbelief as he walked towards her. He took her hands and pulled her up.
"Of course, Kitten." He smiled. "But you shouldn't cry over me. I died for you. Defending your king. I could have left. But I knew what he meant to you. I died fighting. The way I knew I would."
"Oh Liam…" Alana said, tears staining her face.
"Hush, Kitten." He said, wiping her tears. "George is better for you then I ever was. He knows he can't help and it kills you to see him cry for me. Jon too. Don't hurt the people who love you for no reason."
"Liam. I know you're right. But I can't let go of you yet. It…It still hurts." She felt shame creep into her face at admitting her feelings.
"Don't be ashamed, kitten." He said, smiling at her. "But don't mourn for me. Be happy for me. I died a hero's death. I'm not sad."
"I…I'll try." She said, still shaking now that he had let go of her hands.
"No, Alana." He said, suddenly harsh. "Promise me. Swear to me."
"Yes. Okay. I promise. But please. Let me have today. No more after today."
"But kitten, this day is nearly over." He indicated to the window. She looked over and saw he was right – colors filled the sky as the sun was setting.
"But…" She looked back and he was gone.
"Lioness. Lioness Alana get up please! The king is hear!" She woke with a start and saw a red haired page shaking her awake.
"I'm coming, Gale. Tell King Jon I'll be five minutes." She shook her head and walked to the mirror. Her bright purple eyes were red from crying and her red hair was messy.
'Goddess I'm a mess.' She thought, running fingers through her hair.
"Lioness. I'm sorry for just coming in…" She spun around and found herself face to face with Jon.
"No. It's not a problem. I was just…dreaming."
"I'm glad you could sleep. Are you finally letting him go?" Jon's smile was sincere.
"Yes. Yes I think I am." She smiled back and followed him out. She took one last look around the room before shutting the door. In the back of her mind, she could hear a small voice whisper.
'Kitten…'
