"You hate me, don't you?" She asked with that coy smile of hers that made him think immediately of sex.
He swallowed hard, and he hoped, as her dark eyes penetrated his cold blue ones, she wouldn't notice the bead of sweat trickling down the sides of his face. Aroused and ill at ease, he finally said, "Yes," But as he had uttered the words, he suddenly realized that his description of the sentiment that washed over him every time he thought of her or looked at her, especially when he looked at her, was not entirely accurate.
She giggled. "You're lying to yourself, Jughead Jones," she said, her eyes sparkling brilliantly like a hundred-carat diamond as she tilted her head to the side and her plump lips formed a smile.
Suddenly, all he could think about was kissing those lips, smudging the perfectly applied red lipstick, pressing her body against his and –
"You couldn't hate me if you tried," she added, looking at him strangely, as though she thought him quite peculiar. Only then did Jughead realize that he had been absently staring at her lips akin to a hungry dog who hadn't been fed in weeks. Well, he thought, in a way, that was true. But he doubted Cheryl could be the medicine to his malady.
Cheryl, if the look she was giving him was any indication, begged to disagree.
Jughead wanted to reply something scathing, to show her who was boss, but suddenly, he found himself unable to come up with any sort of riposte. He stared at Cherly as though seeing her for the first time, his eyes as wide as saucers and still unable to take in all of her beauty.
Cherly merely smirked. "See you, Serpent," she said, popping her bubble gum and then raising her eyebrows inquisitorially, before walking away serpent, as he was unable to do anything but stare at her, mesmerized, mouth slightly agape, but trying desperately and vainly not to show it.
He watched her walk away, his eyes focused on her provocatively short red skirt, and when their eyes met as he absently looked up at her, she winked at him.
He was hooked, line and sinker, and she knew.
