Here's just a little one-shot I wrote about down syndrome.
It was the sentances every single new parent dreaded to hear.
Your child has down syndrome.
Five hours after 'Rissa Dylan Benson was born. When Freddie got the news, he looked over at his wife. She was sleeping, she looked so peaceful. Freddie was so sure she wouldn't be peaceful when he told her the news. He leaned against the wall and put his hand in his back pocket.
"Do you want me to tell her, or do you wanna do it?" The doctor asked. Freddie turned around looked at his daughter. She was curently sleeping and looked so beautiful, she was so perfect.
"Are you sure 'Rissa has down syndrome? She looks so.." Freddie started He looked at his daughter. "Perfect."
"I'm sorry sir. All of the tests came back postive. We're one hundred percent postive." The doctor said. A nurse in pink scrubs walked over.
"I'm sorry. Doctor, the mother is waking." The nurse said. Freddie stood up from leaning against the wall. He walked over to Sam and moved the hair from her face. Sam smiled.
"Bitch, get your hands off my face." Sam mumbled. Freddie laughed a little. "How's 'Rissa?"
"'Risa is amazing. She's beautiful, perfect, she's just like you. Except for one thing." Freddie said. Sam frowned.
"What are you hiding from me, Benson?" Sam asked. Freddie looked back at 'Rissa.
"She-she has down syndrome." He said. Sam laid back down. She started breathing deep. "Are you okay?"
"No, I'm not okay! You just told me my perfect daughter has down syndrome." Sam said. The doctor came over.
"I'm sorry for evesdropping, but you can still live perfectly normal life withdown syndrome." The doctor said. Sam looked over at 'Rissa and smiled.
"Can I see her?" She asked. The doctor smiled.
"Of course. Nurse?" He said. The same nurse who told the doctor Sam was akwake came over.
"Yes doctor?" She asked.
"Can you bring 'Rissa Benson over to see her mother?" The doctor asked. The nurse smiled.
"Of course." She said. She looked over the doctor's shoulder to look at Sam "Your daughter is beautiful."
"She really is." Freddie said. He took Sam's hand and squezed it. A few minutes later, the nurse brought 'Rissa over. Sam gasped. 'Rissa was the cutest baby ever. She had little brown eyes. Her hand wrapped around Sam's finger.
"Oh my God." Sam said, staring at her daughter. Freddie smiled.
"She's amazing beautiful, right Sam?" He asked. 'Rissa opened her eyes and looked directly at Sam.
"Your daughter is remarkable, and with the right treatment, I believe she can have a normal life. Of course, adoption is still an option. Would you want that?" The doctor asked. Sam nodded.
"No-no. She's so...she's so...wow." Sam said. Freddie looked at the doctor.
"I think she's hooked." He said. The doctor smiled.
"I'll leave you too with your thoughts." He said. He left the room, closing the door behind him. Sam looked up at Freddie. They smiled at each other.
"Please meet 'Rissa Dylan Benson." He said. Sam looked down at 'Rissa.
"Hey 'Rissa." She said.
