AN: Hi guys! You might be wondering what I'm doing over here, but I must say that I am a Harry Potter addict. Just a little less than Twilight. I finally got back into it (Finished Half Blood Prince and Deathly hallows in 5 days, combined) and have been watching the movies. This is based in the Movie version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, when Hagrid teaches his first class with Beaky. It was just a little quicky thing, so it might be a little confusing. Thank you much.
Innocent Little Touches
"Now, who'd like to come and say Hello?"
The crowd of students that have assembled nearly fifteen feet from their Professor, Hagrid, steps back another few feet. At the front, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger stand, watching their best friend, Harry Potter, miss his chance to avoid being picked.
"Well done Harry, well done."
Harry turns and looks back at the two, his eyes bugged in fear. Ron looks at him sympathetically before shifting and looking the other way to analyze a piece of bark while Hermione, who looks to Ron for help, casts her gaze away as well.
Sensing Harry's hesitation, Ron pushes Harry forward and takes a step back toward Hermione as Hagrid launches into a speech about Hippogriff etiquette. Ron takes an unconscious step closer to Hermione, both sensing the danger in what their best friend is about to do.
Harry bows to the Hippogriff, who glances at him and coos wants before flapping its wings and squawking loudly at Harry.
"Back off Harry, Back off."
Harry takes a step back and his foot crashes down on a twig. The sound is small and heard often, but in the terse environment, it sets Hermione on edge. Her hand lashes out and grips Ron's sleeve. Ron's eyes widen, but he's absorbed in the exchange going on in front, not in the girl clinging to him in fear.
"Keep Still." Hagrid cautions as Harry glances up at the Hippogriff. Hermione's breath quickens as she fears the Hippogriffs power. As Hagrid said, 'Do not Offend a Hippogriff,' and by the looks of it, that's exactly what Harry had done.
Her fear ebbs though as the Hippogriff stamps its food and bobs it's head before bowing back to Harry. Beside her, Ron relaxes a little as well, but still seems blind to the grip on his sleeve.
After a few minutes, Hagrid suggests that Harry should pet him. All at once, the two friends are back on edge. Yes, he'd gotten away scott-free once, but who knew what could happen this time.
Harry steps forward, his hand raising. Hagrid cautions his speed from a few feet away, telling him to slow it down. Hermione's breath quickens again as the Hippogriff seems to get offended yet again. Ron stiffens a little.
All at once, the Hippogriff snaps at Harry and Hermione's hand flies to Ron's wrist, gripping it in fear. Ron looks down at their intertwined hands before glancing up to meet her eyes, a slight flush spreading across his cheek. Hermione looks embarrassed as well and shakes her head slightly, dropping his hand. Ron quickly steps away and glancing up at the trees.
Both of them could feel the slight electrical current that spread through them at their innocent little touch. Even as they watch Harry touch the fearsome Hippogriff, or even as he was lifted onto it and told to fly, their minds were on their touch. It was so seemingly pointless and innocent, but yet very important all the same.
Four years later, as the two embraced for what could have been their last kiss, the touch was far from their minds, but the spark was still there; the spark that could have started it all.
