Say Something

This story is from an omniscient point of view.

Crutchy huddled against the cold, half open window. Snyder and his goons had purposely left it open, just to make the boy shiver, after they'd beat him to practically nothing.

Crutchy opened his half parched lips, and breathed deeply, watching in fascination as his breath became a small cloud suspended in the air. His shoulders shook, and the chains that burned into his wrists pinched as he tried to move. Snyder was smarter this time, at least he thought to string the kid up.

Say something Jack, I'm giving up on you

I'll keep my chin up, if you want me to

Anywhere I'se would've followed you

Say something, I'm givin' up on you

And I...I'se feelin' so small

It was over my head

I know not'hin' at all

And I is...goin' ta fall

I'm still learnin' ta live

Just startin' ta crawl

Say somet'ing, I'm givin' up on ya's

I'se sorry that I couldn't get to ya

Anywhere I would've followed you

Say somet'hin', I'm givin' up on you

And I...will swallow my pride

You're de one dat I need

And I'm sayin' goodbye

Say somet'hin', I'm giving up on you

An' I'se sorry that I couldn't get to ya's

Anyway, I would've followed you

Say somet'ing I'm giving up on ya

Say somet'ing, I'm giving up on ya

Crutchy finished, giving a hard wracking cough that seemed to spread pain throughout his entire body.

"Crutch? Crutchy, is dat you?"

Jack's voice, just outside of the window made his frozen friend look up hopefully. He shook the ice out of his curls, and grinned.

"Jack, you'se here? I wasn't expectin' ya's, you bein' so busy wit's de strike an' all. Don't dey needs ya's?" The cripple asked wonderingly, trying to adjust his frozen, gimp leg.

Jack shook his head. "You'se more important. I'se heard what ya's was singin' an ya's don't got cause ta gives up on me, Crutchy. I'se is right heah, an' I'se aimin' ta get ya outta heah, don't you'se worries. Davey an' I is goin' ta find a way." He reached through the bars to put a strengthening hand on his friend's bare shoulder. "You understands? Don't freeze on me, ok?"

Crutchy nodded, and tried to wipe the tears away. "I'se won'ts Jack. T'anks fa reassurin' me."

The End
