A/N: Hello my darlings!

Look at this, my first Doctor Who fan fiction! This was, once again, written for Unattainable Dreams prompt exchange. My prompt was "You are less than worthless!" (Kefka from Dissidia), prompted by Otorisosa-kan! It will be multi-chapter, but bear with me, I have a lot of stories going right now, :)

DISCLAIMER: I don't own Doctor Who, I promise. If I did, the Ponds would still be here.

He knew.

He supposed he'd always known, really. That it would come down to this. The most impossible choice of his life.

When he closed his eyes he heard the shrieking of terrified Gallifreyan children, of their parents begging for mercy from creatures with no idea what mercy meant.

It made something churn inside of him, under those two hearts which were slowly, slowly hardening towards this hellish decision.

The Doctor currently felt as undeserving of his name as he ever had before.

In a way, this was kinder, he told himself. It would be a quick and relatively painless death. No one else would need to die. The Daleks would be wiped out for good.

And so too would the Time Lords.

That thought alone made him gasp and grit his teeth against the wave of grief. It wasn't just the fact that he would be the last, no. It was the fact that he would have to be the one to do it.

So easy. So incredibly easy to commit what amounted to mass genocide. He knew, he knew it was the only choice he had left.

It didn't make it any easier.

His hand was trembling as he lay it on top of the button that would end all of it. The Last Great Time War would be over, oh so soon.

In most universes, he'd be lauded a hero for ending the single greatest war his planet had ever seen. He knew what he truly was.

Useless.

When he pressed the button, there were tears in his eyes and he let them spill down and run down his cheeks. Was it possible for a Time Lord to die of broken hearts? He swore he felt both of his crunch and shatter inside of him.

For a long, long time, he stood, silent, and utterly, utterly alone.

And then, he did something even more cowardly.

After killing his entire race and every last Dalek on Gallifrey, the Doctor ran away.

A/N: Hahaha, hahaha, I'm a terrible person. I promise things get somewhat better at the end, kind of?

Please review and...

DFTBA darlings, :)
