"Remember"
**I do not own "The Lost Boys" nor do I claim to... I'm just playing. I do, however, own characters mentioned (Iris and Jacob)-- so be nice.**

**Remember**
Across the sky, pink light faded to purple, purple light to blue, and blue to black as the sun set over Santa Carla's abandoned beach beneath desolate cliffs. Peering out from a shadowed cave near the sand was the face of a young lady with wild hair and eyes outlined in black kohl. She stared at the fading light, waiting for it to disappear altogether so she could step out into the twilight. Beyond her vision, above the sheer edge of the rocks, the first pinpoints of night were melting into view.
Star hugged her elbows around her crimson velvet shawl as she stepped from the darkness and onto the grey sands to perch upon a large stone out of the tide's reach. She always preferred being in large crowds than by herself, but Iris did this all too often, and decided to try and remember....
The landscape melted away into a memory from before she was confined to the night, a memory that included someone other than these lost boys. A different boy was there with her; he was her age, with short brown hair and green eyes, a smile on his face, and a rose in his hands.
"Jacob," she sighed, staring into his eyes as tears welled in her own, remembering the brief warmth of his embrace. Something flipped in her stomach at the sight of him, something made her lean forward to him. How she had missed him; how oblivious he had been to her undeclared love. She reached out to take the rose that sat so invitingly between his fingers, but he stared right past her and there was another girl in a short blue dress and her hair done up in tight curls, her arms open to Jacob and inviting him in for a kiss. He held out the flower to her and Star shut her eyes tightly, now trying to forget; they faded just as the sunlight had.
//I never told you I needed you, darling, like a rose needs the rain....//
Her nails dug into the skin of her palms as she held her fists to hide her face and let every tear mingle with the blood she drew. How couldn't he have known? Wasn't it obvious enough? Wasn't it far too late now? Now she knew why she always pushed this out of her mind, why she tried to make sure she would not remember. This plan rarely succeeded.
They spent cherished time together, but never grew into what Star wanted....
In time, not long after that rose had been fresh in the other girl's hands, someone did help her forget. David came with promises and a home and loving arms Star had never known. He was more inviting than that damned flower--- she had been so thankful for that--- and now Star wondered if things had turned out for the best. Could she turn back now?
How she would have devoted every waking moment to Jacob, how he should have loved her back. She relaxed her hands and clutched her knees to her chest; she let her eyes focus on the ocean and sadly concluded that all she could do was remember...
//You were ever in my mind...//
