What if Peter came back?
Wendy lay awake in her bed thinking the same thoughts as she did every night. She had the dream again. When Peter Pan came back to her and told her, he loved her. He would wrap his arms around her and kiss her soft pink lips again. She brought her hand to her lips. They were still warm and tingling. Wendy pulled off the covers and walked over to the window. She opened it once more and let the cold into the room. Hope shone in her crystal blue eyes as she searched the sky, but no one was there. Wendy sank to the floor, buried her face in her hands, and began to sob.
"I love you Peter" she whispered to the wind. Her shoulders shook with her silent sobs.
"Why do you cry girl?" A gentle voice asked. Wendy's heart stopped for a moment. Could it be? Her head whipped about the room searching. Little did she know Peter silently floated down behind her. Just as she was about to give up he wrapped his arms around her waist. A gasp and Wendy turned, he really was back.
"Peter?" She asked while reaching out her hand and touching his face. As if he could just be another taunting vision and he would disappear. When she touched his face, he closed his emerald eyes and covered her tiny and in his larger one.
"It really is you" Wendy announced happily and threw her arms around Peter Pan's neck. He held her close and tight. A sly smile played on his lips along with a light blush to his cheeks.
"Wendy. I would like to give you a thimble." He told her softly. She looked up into his eyes getting lost in the sea of green.
"If you wish it" She smiled. He slowly swooped in to capture her soft, sweet lips. That feeling was back, the electrifying that nothing he had ever done in all his childhood years had given him. Wendy, this is his Wendy. Is she worth growing up for though? They parted from the kiss and their foreheads touched. Peter's fingers touched Wendy's cheek as soft as a feather.
"I have to go," He whispered softly. Something in Wendy's light blue eyes had changed. They seemed as the sea after it rained. Darker and lonely. She tried to compose herself and gave him a smile. Her heart was not in it though.
"I understand" She told him sadly and walked with him to the window. "Will you come back?" She asked again. He gave a small smile and kissed her again.
"If you wish it" He said raspy tone. He flew off in a flash leaving Wendy with the hope she thought she had lost. At school, she doodled in her notebook again this time being more cautious about the teacher catching her. It was soon time to leave and pick up the boys. She noticed them all in a huddle and cheering excitedly. She furrowed her brow curiously and walked over to them.
"Boys what are you-?" She stopped when in the middle of the huddle a boy with blond hair and emerald green eyes turned to face her. Leaves gone and donned in a black pair of trousers and a loose white shirt. He had a smile that was too cocky for his own good.
"Peter, what are you doing here?" Wendy asked while tackling him to the ground. He chuckled and pushed some of her hair behind her ear.
"One girl is worth growing up for. I love you Wendy." He told her. Happy tears ran down her face and she kissed him long and hard. They rose from the ground and brushed themselves off. Peter extended his hand towards Wendy. Instead of flying they ran, weaving throughout the busy streets of London. Peter looked into the sky to Tink, who he knew was watching him.
"To live would be an awfully big adventure"
Therefore, the boy who never dreamed of growing up found his love and gave up his childhood. He left his legacy behind never ceasing to leave his child-like sprit. There will always be lost boys and girls and Neverland holds them safe. One day though they will leave and live their lives anew. For we all have to grow up and that may not be a bad thing.
