The quarry is the place where everybody can see Sodor's engines collecting and delivering stone all over the island. It was the middle of December and Christmas is approaching. The Fat Controller told Mavis, BoCo, Bill and Ben that they are needed to help the engines in preparation for the holiday season. Bill and Ben were mostly excited. "We can't wait for our favourite time of year!"

By the time they arrived a snow storm was brewing. They had to stay in sheds in order to keep out of the blistering cold.

The next morning the entire island was covered in thick, white snow. The engines had their snowploughs; despite Thomas not liking them, The Fat Controller told him that the snowplough is entirely different from his last one. It's more comfortable and very resistant to heavy loads of snow.

Donald and Douglas cleared snow on each side of the tracks, Percy delivered the post, Gordon pulled the express and Henry pulled goods.

At the sheds Mavis, BoCo, Bill and Ben were given jobs to help with the celebrations. "I'm so excited, I never wanted it to end," said Ben.

"More excited than you," said Bill.

Then a workman arrived. "There's been a change in plans. The engines have troubles making deliveries and need assistance. BoCo you're given the task on delivering the workmen to help on the tracks."

BoCo was delighted and saw that Bill and Ben were excited as well.

"Not to worry," said Bill.

"You'll be finished in time," said Ben.

BoCo smiled and went on his way.

The storm caused a lot of problems on the island, the ice froze all the points making them impossible to switch. and piles of snow blocked many of the stations making it impossible for the engines to complete their jobs. Not even their snowploughs can penetrate them.

BoCo arrived at Edward's station with the coach to pick up the workmen and went on his way. They had to dig out most of the snow so the engines can easily grow through with their ploughs.

Once the job was done, BoCo stopped at the nearest signal. The workmen brought out the salt and spread it on the frozen points. Henry steamed by with the goods train along with Gordon, James, Oliver and Thomas.

BoCo was almost done with the points, until heard a loud noise. "I wonder what caused that."

After the workmen climbed in the coach, BoCo headed towards the spot where he heard the noise. He arrived at Elsbridge Station and the sight shocked him. The overhead footbridge collapsed on the station. It was rusty and weak, the piles of snow applied extra weight making it break apart and crash to the bottom. Bill and Ben witnessed the whole thing while rearranging the trucks in the yard.

The was a familiar whistle, it was Thomas heading down the track. BoCo's driver contacted the signalman and the signalman set the signal at danger. He knew that the points are still frozen. Thomas went around the corner and saw the signal. "Oh, bother! Looks like I have to stop!"

Thomas applied his brakes but it was too late. He crashed through the footbridge, derailing him. His driver and fireman had jumped clear but Thomas was badly bent and bashed.

The driver telephoned The Fat Controller who was in his office. "I'll sent him to the works. If they can't mend him in time we'll have to start the celebration without him."

Mavis brought the breakdown train, Thomas was miserable.

After the final points have been defrosted from the salt, the engines finished the preparations. A few days later Thomas was fixed and arrived in time for the celebration.

At the station, the whole place was filled with lights. A tall tree stood in the middle with a huge star on top. Decorations were hanging all over the place. Then snowflakes started to fall. The engines whistled loudly during the celebration. BoCo, Mavis, Bill and Ben were most impressed and couldn't agree more that it's going to be a merry white Christmas.
