Chapter 1: Wanderings
Ginny Weasley, try as she might, could not get to sleep. She rolled over and over, restlessly, until she had decided to get up and creep around Hogwarts. Ginny had done this many a night and she was now an expert at getting around without getting caught. So this night Ginny slipped out of bed and crept down to the common room. The pretty red-haired 5th year silently moved through the portrait hole. Ginny skillfully hid herself into the shadows as she moved through the corridors, not thinking of where to go, just going where her feet took her. Ginny was so lost in her mind that she didn't look around a corner as she turned it and crashed right into someone, a someone named Draco Malfoy. Ginny tumbled down, as Draco was much taller and heavier then she. Draco stood, looking surprised. He then cursed under his breath as he saw that Ginny Weasley had walked into him then fallen back and hit her head. She now lay unconscious on the cold floor. Draco sighed then leaned down and easily swept Ginny up in his arms. She felt as light as a feather and her hair softly tickled Draco's face.
"Oh crap." Came Draco's matter-of-fact whispered curse. But Draco knew that he could not leave the young girl on the floor when she was injured. He might have been bad, but not that bad. Draco walked up to the hospital wing when he felt something wet on his arm, where Ginny's head was. Draco suddenly felt a rush of fear, what else could it be? He stopped and gently raised Ginny's head up, cursing again as he saw the blood trickling from a wound in the back of her head. Draco picked up his pace, now sprinting through the corridors, and finally arriving at the hospital wing. Madame Pomfrey looked up and was about to take some points from Slytherin when she noticed Ginny. Madame Pomfrey leapt up quickly and without a word grabbed Ginny and laid her on a bed, shooing Draco quickly out. Draco remained just outside the ward, not willing to leave until he learned whether Ginny was all right or not, for he did feel guilty.
Ginny slowly regained conscious slowly, groaning as she felt her head pound. Suddenly a foul tasting potion was shoved down her throat and the pain was gone. Ginny sat up quickly, sputtering as the foul stuff traveled down her throat. She looked up into the concerned face of Madame Pomfrey.
"How did I get here?" Ginny asked, "I only remember walking into… Draco!"
"Yes," replied Madame Pomfrey, "And he carried you all the way up here to. I believe he is waiting outside to see how you are. You should go tell him." Ginny nodded numbly to Madame Pomfrey as she stood up in a daze. Draco Malfoy? The annoying git her brother always talked about? He had carried her all the way up here, possibly saving her life? Good grief. Ginny walked out of the hospital wing and came face to face with Draco.
"Um… How are you?" He asked hesitantly, as if he expected her to yell at him or something.
"I'm fine, Draco." Ginny replied, "And thanks for all you did." Ginny walked slowly up to him and then kissed him softly on the cheek. Then with one last look, she turned and headed in the direction of the Gryffindor tower. Leaving Draco with one hand on his cheek, staring after her with surprise but pleasure on his face. Then Draco too turned and headed towards Slytherin. Soon the corridor was empty.
