Authors Note: Hello guys! So I was sitting in my study group today at school and I was watching criminal minds on my laptop, because who needs to study when you have criminal minds (the actual answer to that is me, but if you don't tell my teachers then I won't either)? Anyway, im sitting there and I was like, hmmm I wonder if I could write a story that is exactly 500 words long (not including authors note or disclaimer) and has no speech in it? Instead of giving up on the idea like a normal person I decided to try it, I don't know why I decided on the Hotchner's as I NEVER write them, but I kind of like this so maybe I should more often… so any way, if you could leave me a review to let me know what you think? Until next time – Cooey out!
Disclaimer: I own neither Criminal Minds nor Jurassic Park. Just in case you're wondering where the story is…. Keep scrolling… oh look you found it!
The snow was falling thick and fast outside the window at the Hotchner residence, Jack was sitting on the windowsill in his bed room watching the substance coat the street. He pulled his legs closer to his chest and wrapped his arms around his knees hugging them tight. As he was watching he saw a car pull into the driveway and he smiled, his dad was home from getting their dinner. Racing downstairs he pulled his step over to the door so he could see out the peephole – he wasn't quite tall enough yet, and waited for his dad to show up on the other side. A minute passed and then he could see his father's form on the other side, he waited for his dad to knock, just like he was told too, and then he jumped off the stool and dragged it away from the door, before opening it. As he did so the smell of the Chinese food that they were going to have for dinner was invading his nostrils, making his stomach growl with anticipation. As Aaron Hotchner entered the house he ruffled his son's hair and laughed at the noises that the seven year olds stomach was making. They walked in and sat on the floor in the living room, they each had a plate that the boy had pulled out of the cupboard when his dad left. There was a knife and a fork on one plate, Jack was still to master using chopsticks. As the two Hotchner's ate they spoke a little, about Jack's friends and his schooling, what movies his aunt had taken him to see while his dad was out of town. They laughed and Hotch even taught Jack to eat with chopsticks, the boy was quick at learning and had even graduated past the rubber band trick that was commonly used for beginners. After the food was eaten and any leftovers were packed away the dishes were done, with Jack washing and Hotch drying, they played games like I Spy and twenty questions as they did their chores. The washing was done so after a bath for Jack both of the Hotchner men settled in the living room again to watch a DVD the options were endless, but they settled on a sure favourite – Jurassic Park, jack had gained a new infatuation with dinosaurs as part of the topic they were learning about in science. The little boy curled up with his head in his father's lap, under his favourite blanket. They watched the movie enjoying each-others company, neither knowing when Hotch might be called away again, neither wanting it to be soon. As the credits began to roll Hotch picked up his now sleeping son and carried him up to his room, he placed the little boy underneath the blankets and walked over to the window, stopping for a second to watch the snow, enchanted just as his son had been. Knowing, in this moment that all was well.
